Jul. 4th, 2006

Went to the A's game Sunday afternoon with Eugene. It sucked. No, hanging out with him was fine, it was the A's game that sucked. It only lasted like 2 hours, and the A's got owned by Brandon Webb. I already wrote it up here. I also got sunburned because I was careless in my sunscreen application. So I was grumpy due to the game and sunburnt when I-Gene picked me up from the Fremont BART stop. We drove around a bit and ended up getting gigantic Jamba Juice smoothies.

After that we pretty much just spent the rest of the day goofing off. Played some Pop'n, some IIDX, went to In-And-Out for dinner, and I called Carl for a while to talk about Japan possibilities. Nothing earth-shattering.

Today, I got up early to get picked up by Rem, and we went to Santa Cruz for [profile] ts4z and [personal profile] bayareajenn's wedding. And I just realized if I try to use LJ tags for everyone, my head will explode.

Rem and I got there at like 1pm and got some lunch, and then played stuff in the big arcade at the end of the boardwalk for a while. We did some Percussion Master or whatever it was called, and I did some Beatmania, and of course there was pinball. Around 3 we went to see what was up with the wedding, and Ryan Troll somehow recognized me and stopped us to say that Tim and Jenn were like 45 minutes away. So we wandered more boardwalk and eventually ran into Kidder and Xtyn, and came back to the Giant Dipper roller coaster, where by then Kevin and Becky had shown up, and a bit later Jonah as well, and Dan Martinez, and then plenty of people I don't know and whose names I'm not sure I ever caught.

Eventually Tim and Jenn and their officiant showed up. T&J were dressed in an appropriate tuxedo and bridal gown, which really stood out on the boardwalk. They got a whole bunch of pictures taken, and then we all got in line for the roller coaster, and we rode it, all 22 of us in one car, with some additional spouses and such taking pictures from the entryway. I think there was a ceremony -- at least it appears they had written one - but to be honest, we were all screaming too loud to hear any of it. I heard a bit of the beginning as we went up the first hill, and at the end Dan was yelling "MAN AND WIFE! SAY 'MAN AND WIFE'!", but yeah.

After that, they did rings on the boardwalk, bought the photos from inside the ride, and we pretty much all took off for the reception party, stopping at concessions stands along the way. Tim bought some corn dogs while wearing his tuxedo, and I stopped for some soft-serve ice cream. Mmmm.

The party was in the clubhouse of the condo house community they live in. There was a pool but nobody really used it. (Thank god. I had debated bringing a bathing suit but decided against it.) A whole lot more CMU people I hadn't seen in forever showed up -- Kat and Jesse and their new baby, and Noah, and Erik (wait, Erik showed up on the boardwalk but wasn't on the coaster), and even Joshua Schachter and his wife, whose name I am suddenly blanking on.

So uh, there was a grill. And there was cake. And there was sitting around chatting with people. And that's really about it. It was pretty low-key, and about 20 minutes in, Tim and Jenn changed into t-shirts and jeans anyway. I had worn a blouse and denim skirt, so I changed into a Mariners t-shirt at that point, making this two weddings I've attended wearing a baseball t-shirt now. Whee!

There was a point when people told embarrassing stories about Tim and Jenn, mostly told by Jonah and Brian and Ryan -- and it was weird, because I realized I've known Tim for almost 12 years now, and yet, none of the funny stories I have are worth telling to a room of strangers. While inside jokes from Return to Zork, or System's Twilight, or KGB or Kiltie Band or VOH or ASG or well, ninety billion other things, are funny to us, it's not really funny to anyone else. Though I suppose the "Want some rye? Course ya do" toast would have been sort of funny to say.

We did get to go back to the house afterwards and see all of Tim's stray dogs -- er -- stray arcade game machines. He's got all sorts of pinball machines, and I got to play Black Hole and Hi-Speed (another guy was monopolizing Twilight Zone). Tim almost missed us leaving because he was engrossed in Star Wars, the old arcade game. And I got to talk to Jenn a little bit too, but really, I need to come down sometime when there isn't baseball going on and really hang out with people, I think. I remember having a lot of fun hanging out with them playing mini golf when I was in the midst of the Great Westcoast Roadtrip two years ago.

Anyway, I came home, and hung out talking to I-Gene for a while. We watched the Tivoed episode of Jeopardy from tonight. I don't know if I should say anything about it.

Now, I need to pack up my stuff -- Rem bought tickets to tomorrow's A's game, and it's at 2pm and my flight is at 8pm -- so it's sounding like I should bring my stuff to the stadium with me since I'm flying out of Oakland anyway -- so I just might end up stuck in the airport for like 3 hours... but... otherwise I end up spending like an hour in transit to/from here or something anyway? Sigh. I don't think I know anyone who lives anywhere near Oakland.
