Hm, today was pretty good. Took care of a bunch of things I had been slacking on, like finally getting that baritone horn back to NWVenture, and some other misc paperwork stuff. I called my old officemate at Amazon to ask him if he'd be a job reference for me and we ended up talking for a while. I miss that group.

Then I met up with [profile] zenspider downtown for mediterranean food, and we hung out for a few hours at a coffeeshop up in cap hill (Bauhaus?), which was fun, even if my eyes are permanently going to be zapped from looking into the sunset so often. I kinda get the whole cap hill thing and at the same time, I don't.

I wandered around the area after Ryan went home... I called up a few people but they were all either busy or going out of town or something. I did wander through some of the bookstores in cap hill and was very tempted by a lot of books, but managed to only buy one, at the store with all the cats. I'll have to hit the CH HPB sometime when I have my coupons, though.

Hmm, and now that I know how to take the bus home from capitol hill I think I should go hang out there more often.

Most games attended by a pet duck

6 games
Jarry Park, Montreal 1970

---

The way the last-place Expos played in 1970 was for the birds. Maybe that's why one of the team's noisiest rooters was a duck!

The feathered fan attended his first game when two humans brought the little guy -- their pet -- to Jarry Park and asked if they could take him inside with them.

"The team policy said no dogs or cats were allowed, but it didn't say anything about ducks," recalled promotions director Roger Savard. "So I told them to buy him a ticket."

"It was really funny because every time the duck quacked, you could hear him all over the ballpark, and the fans started to quack back."

After six games the duck stopped coming. Maybe he just got tired of seeing the Expos put so many goose eggs up on the scoreboard.

So, today I woke up for the Byrne blockade, which we won soundly.

After that, I met up with [profile] damienroc at Gordito's for dinner; we were briefly joined by [profile] theonlymegumegu and Max, who spent the whole time geeking about D&D. Whee. It made me glad I only play wizard characters in high-level campaigns.

Jeff and I went downtown to the Showbox after that for the Puffy Amiyumi concert (I got him a ticket to it for his birthday a month ago). We got there a little after 7pm, and the opening band, Quiet Drive was playing. They were a very stereotypical Seattle emo band. I really, honestly can't describe them except to say that. The last song they played was a sort of punk version of "Time After Time"... it was okay, I guess.

Then after that, Puffy came on stage. It was Ami, Yumi, and four guys as their backup band -- they had a bassist, guitarist, keyboard player, and drums. The gals just sang, and occasionally played harmonica.

To be perfectly honest, since I haven't actually seen their "Hi! Hi! Puffy Amiyumi" show on the Cartoon Network, or actually bought any of the music they've put out since 2000, I wasn't familiar with a lot of the songs they played. Infact, the only ones I recognized for sure were 海へと, これが私の生きる道, ジェット警察, and アジアの純真. They did say a few other songs' names -- like Tokyo Nights, and they mentioned "Friends Forever" because it's in Scooby Doo 2, and the last song they played in their set was "Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi" or whatever, the theme song from their show.

It was funny because they had papers with stuff in English to say, that they kept reading off to talk to the crowd with... like "We were in Portland before this... and I wanted Pho, but the place closed at 5! Then we wanted Korean BBQ but that place closed at 10... are we cursed or what?? Can you all say, 'Gosh!'?" and the whole crowd yelled, "GOSH!"

Anyway, the best part of the show was their encore. First they explained that when Green Day toured in Japan, they invited Puffy backstage, and said how they were fans, etc... so in return, Puffy decided to sing here, of all songs, Basket Case. It was really really funny, but it actually sounded pretty good. The other half of their encore was アジアの純真, which is the first Puffy single I ever owned, actually (it's actually their first single ever, I think), so that was super-cool, and it sounded really neat live. It was a really good way to end the show, I think.

Halfway home, Jeff made an offhand comment that he wanted a milkshake, so I suggested we go to Red Robin. So we did, the one in Northgate, and we hung out there for a while talking about baseball and Puzzle Pirates and crap. Whee!
