Games 'n' Stuff

Oh well. Today I went over to Nykkel's place for board games. Phaedrus, Farren, Kiefer, and Fire were also there. For once I showed up (relatively) on time -- as in, I wasn't the last to show up, I got there before Nykkel's proscribed game start time, and nobody had any games out when I got there. Har. The four of us that were there started to play Tichu, but I screwed up passing cards AND Kiefer and Fire showed up, so oh well.
We played Bohnanza first, which I hadn't played in a bazillion years. (Case in point: the copy I bought in January 2004 is still in plastic wrap.) We had a LOT of cards on the table when the deck got reshuffled for the third round so it was relatively short, which worked to my advantage at least since I'd built up 4-5 coins fairly early on (using Red Beans). In the end, Nykkel and Farren and I all had 11 coins, and I had 4 cards and Farren and Nykkel had 5. Arr, whatever.
After that someone had the brilliant idea to play a 6-player Cosmic Encounter game. We did the draft system to choose powers, and of course Mesmer and Vulch both went right past me :( I ended up being Virus / Void though, which is a really big bad "Don't mess with me" kinda power combination. Nykkel was Pentaform / Diplomat, Phaedrus was Obverse / Worm, Fire was Reincarnator / Mesmer, Kiefer was Vulch / Siren, and Farren was Terrorist / ... my gosh, what WAS Farren's other power? It was something he had to take for zero. Oh right! Ghost :)
I expected to get totally trampled because I was Void, but because I was Virus/Void and always kept 2-3 tokens on all my planets, people didn't want to mess with my mad multiplication skillz. As it is, there was a battle early on where Fire, as Mesmer/Silencer (that was her current Reincarnation) was attacking in my system, and silenced me, got a buncha people to ally, then tried to use Mesmer to Cosmic Zap my Virus power, and I had a natural Cosmic Zap and zapped her Mesmer, so I won the fight and sent 8 tokens to the Void. Whee. In the end I think I zapped 8 of Fire's tokens, 7 of Phaedrus's, 2 of Kiefer's, and 1 of Nykkel's. Farren and I ended up not really fighting each other, and since I was sitting to his left and he was Terrorist I kept joking about how I was "Deferring to the expert judgment of the Terrorist" before allying in any battles. Hee. It worked pretty well -- I'm not sure I ever won a battle as a main player, but somehow I did end up with four external bases -- so, we had a fight at the end, it was basically... someone attacking Farren. Who it was is not relevant, as it ended up being me, Phaedrus, Kiefer, and Fire allied on the attacking side of the cone, all with four external bases, and Nykkel stayed out -- then as his power at that point, Skeptic, said to whoever was attacking: "I doubt you will win." Nykkel also had four external bases, so -- if Farren lost the fight, all of us would get our fifth base -- but if he WON the fight, making Nykkel right, Nykkel would get his fifth base as Skeptic. What a mess! In the end, we won, Farren played the Void flare on the planet, Kiefer flare zapped it, and boom, the game was over. It didn't take until Thursday, thankfully.
Half the gang left at that point... Nykkel and Farren and I hung out for another hour or so talking about random stuff, which was fun. Hopefully we'll get to do some fun stuff in the next few weeks! Yay.
I borrowed some (Japanese) Karaoke Revolution discs from Nykkel (basically the ones he has that I don't), so I came home and practiced reading Kanji... err... sang a buncha songs :) And I watched Miss Congeniality, in the hopes that I'll be able to convince someone to see Miss Congeniality 2 with me sometime. Whee.
