kicking off the new year with fun stuff
Jan. 1st, 2005 12:20 amWheeeeee today was a pretty good day. (And oddly I seem to have spent time on last new year's eve ALSO playing Dalmuti. How odd.)
Anyway. So we got up and went over to Adam and Rehana's house. Zach was already there, and Carl got to town yesterday and all, and I called Brad, who had just gotten back to town last night as well. He met us at Chuy's for lunch. Chuy's! I love going to Chuy's, not even necessarily because I love the food or anything, but just because I think the place is fun, especially with like 7 people. So yeah.
We reconvened at A&R's place after for a bit, and divided into cars, and then we went off to Emma Long Park (or Turkey Creek? or both?) to let Zach's dogs take us for a walk. I had been saying that I wanted to do something active since I've been mostly sitting around feeling sick all week, and also, it's nice and warm and sunny here so we could all go walk outdoors, since some of us can't do so in our respective hometowns. It was really really fun, anyway. It's a no-leash dog-walking area, but it's also a nice hiking trail up and down rocks and back and forth across a creek. Brad and I brought our cameras and took lots of pictures of the trail, and the dogs, and our friends, and whatever. There was a geocache along the trail, and even though we didn't have a GPS, Adam dug out the box from some rocks, and I put a Gameworks timecard in there, heh :)
I guess it was a 3-mile hike or so and it took us around 2 hours what with waiting for the dogs, trying to cross creeks, geocaching, stopping to take pictures, etc. I got to talk to Carl for a while. Good times.
Afterwards we hung out for a while just playing cards and whatnot. I'm pleasantly surprised by how Brad seems to have become more of a gaming person since last time I saw him. I also had a lot of fun talking to him about music, since we pretty much have the same taste in music. (Brad: you need to listen to Great Big Sea.)
Somewhere around 5:30-6ish I started IMing random people to wish them happy new year, heh. I ended up talking to Oren off and on all day that way. Hi Oren! Our group decided to go to Texadelphia for dinner, but it was closed, so instead we ended up at Jason's Deli. I thought I'd been there before, and I was right, except that when I had been there with Ben and Brad and Eli last year, it was actually across the arboretum from where it is now. It was good. I had a big sandwich. Mmmm.
We split up to go gather materials -- Brad and Carl and Rehana and I went to Brad's place to gather up Brad's DVD player and some movies, and the rest went to get some groceries and more movies from Zach's. We reconvened, and then Rehana headed out to go to a new year's eve ballroom dance thing. The rest of us played Great Dalmuti while watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, and drank a lot of alcohol. There were daquiris and mudslides and other bottles of stuff. After the movie was over, we were going to put in Sneakers, but I actually really wanted to watch that and not half-watch it with a card game. So everyone ended up just watching it. At midnight, we failed to see any real broadcast of newyear stuff, but instead Brad dropped a Diet Coke can from the ceiling of the apartment to the floor and we all counted down or something.
After the movie we played Frank's Zoo for a bit, and then everyone split up to go home.
theonlymegumegu called me around 2am here to wish me a happy new year, which was really funny since it was only midnight in Seattle. Heh. Happy new year :)
I went and read my friends list and wrote random happy new years. I think I should go to sleep soon. Nick is trying to make up new year's resolutions and I'm making fun of him. Good times.
Honestly, I'm glad I'm here with a bunch of friends to bring in the new year. I remember calling Carl at midnight last year and I'm glad we're in the same city this year, even if I haven't gotten enough time just hanging out with him.
Arr.
