Austin Day 5: Ocean's Twelve
Dec. 30th, 2004 01:25 amToday we went to Rudy's ("The worst BBQ in Texas") for lunch with Adam and Rehana, where I had some brisket and pork, and Adam had a ton of BBQ sauce (and I think he had some turkey in it as well).
Afterwards Nick and I came back here and did laundry (since I had packed only half a trip's worth of clothes, this is about the midpoint) and caught up on online stuff. Zach came over after 5ish, and the three of us went over to this wacky movie theatre called the Alamo Drafthouse, where they have movie screens and table-things along each row, so you can order dinner and whatnot to eat during the movie you watch. So we all got dinner, and we saw Ocean's Twelve. Zach and Nick split a "bucket of beer", too, and so I actually drove Nick's car to and from the theater. Driving in Austin is always an adventure and especially driving Nick's car since it's so different than mine. But, yeah. Beer and stuff.
The movie was pretty funny. I agree with the people who have been slamming it as "too much randomness, not enough plot" but I thought it was still pretty entertaining nonetheless. There are some pretty hilarious scenes all around, particularly involving Julia Roberts. The problem with the movie mostly is that it's not about a heist, or anything, but it's more like, about Catherine Zeta-Jones and the other dude whose name I forgot, the new characters. Matt Damon has several classically funny scenes too, though.
Nick really wanted to watch Ocean's Eleven again after that, so we stopped off at Zach's house to borrow the DVD. I got to see Zach's dogs! Last time he only had Sherlock, now he has Sherlock and Watson. Watson is a big black dog, just as friendly as Sherlock, which means I was knocked over by two very big puppies when I came in. They're cute though.
And we came back here and watched Ocean's Eleven, which was still entertaining even though I'd rewatched it recently. Nick and I watched some of the other features on the DVD and they're pretty funny too.
Hmm, time for sleep. People get back tomorrow. It's still unclear whether I will go boardgaming or swingdancing, depending on my lungs. Sigh.
EDIT> Can't sleep. Finished reading Stengel biography. It was good. Highly recommended. Wish I could sleep though.
