Sunday morning I overslept getting up for D&D because I suck, then I went to D&D. We had two crypt battles... we had to rest after each one because we suck. However, I would like to say that in the second one we were fighting two bebeliths (essentially), and they had some sort of damage reduction (we think 10/good), and so I decided to hit 'em with spells. First one I did was a fireball right between 'em, and the second was scorching ray. Well, I aimed both my rays at one spider demon, and rolled range touch attacks... I rolled two dice and rolled two 20's. Both critical threats succeeded. So I essentially rolled 16d6 from one attack, doing 56 damage to the one spider demon and completely toasting it. WOOOOOO.
At the end of the session I announced that I'm renaming the character from Faustine to Janthina. There doesn't seem to be a point in playing a chaotic neutral elven archer that ISN'T named Janthina.
So, yeah. I went home and chilled for an hour or two, and then went down to Pacific Place to meet up with Chris (
tangerinpenguin) for dinner and movie. I had coupons for Todai that Eli gave me a while back, so I used one of those and we got dinner at Todai. Yay. I didn't take advantage of the "weekend seafood" because I never do, but that's ok. Mmm, sushi. The desserts were better than usual, but I had no room left by then.
We saw Hero. I dunno. It was decent I think, kinda fits in my mind the same way Crouching Tiger did, except this one had like, really wacky cinematography. I remember that more than I remember the movie. I mean, the movie itself kinda reminded me of Rashomon, but the cinematography and use of color reminded me more of something Baz Luhrman would do. There were some spiffy fight scenes. I don't know if I can say much more than that without giving away anything (though to be fair the plot twists, many of them were pretty easy to figure out).
Ah well, after that was PP, as expected. Only thing of note really was... well, eh. We had a BD crew meeting. Not sure what to say about that. I swordfought Maxdemian for an hour or two. I went around 50-50 or even maybe 60-40 on him. Har.
Okay, Sunday. I woke up today, logged in for a bit, found out Atma and Hakim et al didn't even know OCL was rescheduled :( Poor them! Then I drove to my old house, and took the 358 to the Seattle Center for Bumbershoot.
Well, the first thing I find out upon getting there (this is like 4pm mind you) is that there's no wristbands left to see the Pixies concert. DOH! Eh. So I decided to just wander around for a while and see about getting one, and see what was going on. I walked around for like an hour. I ran into Colin! That was cool. Unfortunately he was there with a big group of people or I would have tried to tag along with him. I saw some random band play on the big open stage near the fountain, and I saw a lot of percussionists, and I saw buskers, and many many many craft booths. They had Didjeridus. And hemp stuff. And purses made from recycled bike tires.
I ended up getting a crepe for dinner and strawberry shortcake for dessert. There really was a ton of food to choose from and those just looked good. I sat down on the ground near a tree and just kinda chilled for a while listening to music and stuff after that. The problem with Bumbershoot really is that it's like a very very big con... lots of lines for EVERYTHING. It's not so bad to be at Bumbershoot alone if you really have an agenda, but I didn't, and didn't want to wait in lines alone, so eh. I ended up playing DDR 5th mix at the arcade... played two games, realized it was like 6:30, and I didn't have a wristband AND the Pixies weren't playing until 9:30.
So I did what any normal Deanna would do.
I hitched a bunch of buses and went to Safeco Field and watched the Mariners-Indians game instead.
Wheee :) I got there at 7:05 exactly, got a ticket for section 320, row 1... so I got to sit right on the edge of the balcony. Damn but that's scary. You could seriously just totally fall off if you're not careful. Anyway, I sat between a father-son pair and two random older-ish guys. The father-son pair left after 3 innings to try to move up but the other guys stuck around for the whole game. They kept talking about baseball but had all their facts wrong so I kept correcting them and eventually they were like "Wow, this chick's just a regular encyclopedia over here!" But it was good-natured I think because after a while they started asking me lots of questions. Though at one point it became obvious they thought I was a UW undergrad. Har. I don't think I look that young.
Anyway, as for the game, Gil Meche pitched, and if he hadn't given up 3 home runs, it would have gone pretty well. I mean, he did great except for those (not sarcastic here). He even got 8 strikeouts on his own in 7 innings, so I got a ticket for a free 2-liter of Pepsi again! This seems to only happen when I go to games alone. But anyway, yeah, 10 strikeouts overall, it was very cool. I also got to see Masao Kida pitch!!!!! Hehe, that was just cool. I mean it's not like I followed him with Yomiuri or Orix or anything but it's just neat to have another Japanese guy in our bullpen. And he's doing really well too.
Ichiro went 2-for-4, and on each of his hits they had a huge big scrolling "Ichiro's hit count: 225" thing on the board, then 226. That's really exciting. Also Mickey Lopez got called up (I just saw him play in Tacoma like 2 weeks ago) and so now there's two Lopezes on the team and the scoreboard guys had 30 Lopez up all night instead of 22 (Jose)... then 30 Lopez (Mickey) came in to pinch-run for Edgar Martinez in the 9th inning and suddenly the boards changed. How silly.
Coco Crisp, who has the dumbest name of any baseball player, did make an amazing catch early on. And C.C.Sabathia pitched excellently, a complete game shutout, which isn't saying much against the Mariners, but still.
Oh crap, I still need to find someone to go with me to the Red Sox game on Thursday.
Anyway, so I was going to just catch a bus home after the game, but I missed the 9:40pm 358 by like... 3 blocks... so I grabbed a 41, then a 16 to the Seattle Center. And right off the bus stop, what did I see hanging from a sign, but... a wristband to go see the Pixies. Whoa. No joke. So rather than walking to the other bus stop, I went in to the concert, which had started at 9:30ish I guess. And as I'm walking in they're playing "Where Is My Mind". It was SO goddamn appropriate.
Other songs they played while I was there: Velouria, Dead, Bone Machine, Debaser, Number 13 Baby, Tame, Gigantic, Hey. There were one or two more I forgot the names of so I didn't take down. Either way I recognized all of the stuff they played... there's so few bands anymore that tour that I'm like that for. I didn't quite get close enough to the stage to REALLY see, but I could kinda. It was still pretty spiffy to be at a Pixies concert even if maybe it was like ten years too late, if you know what I mean :) And dang! They played Velouria! That was always one of my favorite songs of theirs for some reason... and Tame too, that one just always reminds me of Matty-D, sitting in Donner, we were playing bridge once listening to Doolittle and he was shuffling the cards and singing along to it and stuff, the line "hips like Cinderella" at least. Whee :) I need to get Doolittle on CD. I still have it on tape. I bought it for Eli at one point on CD, but I don't think that helps now.
I left the concert at 10:40 to go catch a bus home so I'd avoid the huge crowds afterwards. On the way out of Bumbershoot I was given a free Bumbershoot CD (some sort of Bumbershoot artists' sampler) and a free book (errr... Wild Animus by Rich Shapero, if anyone particularly wants it -- I'll never get around to reading it at this point) because people were promoting this book or something. And then I came home.
Did a bunch of sailing stuff in PP and talking to people and now it's late as usual but ah well. Work tomorrow. Bleh. D&D is on Wednesday instead of tomorrow, so tomorrow evening I have to 1) make Janthina's spellbook, I might go to Fred Meyer and get a real note book and make a physical spellbook and 2) go to Best Buy and get a firewall box or something because bleh, there's spyware on my computer and while I ran Spybot and Adaware and some stuff that C told me to I'm still unhappy with the state of things so I need to do better. Arr. And Eli took our SMC box with him. So. Whee.
The moral of this all, btw, is that slacking is good, and random chance sometimes WILL bring me good things. I have to remember that.
