i have another IIDX 3rd! also cost around $25.
i also got a IIDX 5th but i think i-gene has claimed it.
rebecca: ive seen the DCT DDR game for like $25, i can grab it for you next time i see it or something.
as for today:
i slept in until 9am, came to the internet cafe for a tiny email check. got breakfast at the eki in a bakery called Don Meister. it made me giggle because of the Meister cafe in Kanazawa... DJ thought the bakery breakfast sounded dumb before we went in and then afterwards as he was all full of melon bread he was like DUDE HOW COOL! so it reminded me of in Kanazawa when i was like, bakery for breakfast? and carl said yeah, and then i was all over it after that. heh. knowledge passing on.
so, we went to Shinjuku so DJ could find Shinjuku Sportsworld or whatever it was called - its a famous Virtual On arcade. No joke, the basement is full of VO stuff, posters andd tourmnament things and whatnot, its almost kind of scary. We went there for a few mins and then left to go look for other things. Found a game store or two, and another arcade or two... and we got lunch at a totally random kaiten sushi place, it was awesome! Anyway, we found two arcades next to each other and played some games, like that Shamisen Brothers game that's all over... and went to another one that had a DDR EX and a Beatmania Final, and here is the coolest part ever:
i played one game of DDR and noticed that by the machine they had a Beatmania III 6th Append marquee just SITTING there... and i was like, wow, i wonder why its just sitting behind an umbrella can? So I pick it up and go up to the arcade attendant like
me: sumimasen. kore wo kaemasu ka?
him: looks confused... goes and gets his supervisor
me, to supervisor: kore wo kaemasu ka?
him: mumbles something of which i get the gist is "you can have it"
me: muryou? HONTOU?? ARIGATOU GOZAIMASHITA!!!! *bows deeply*
we exit the arcade and DJ and i both are like "OH MY GOD THAT IS SO COOL!!!!"
so now i have a Beatmania 6th marquee! How cool is that?
I had to walk around carrying it all afternoon, it was kinda funny.
So anyway, yeah, shinjuku. we also found a taito tower and some other cool stores, but i am in a hurry and blanking...
we came back to ikebukuro around 5-6pm and put stuff back at the ryokan and then our night excursion was basically to see east ikebukuro.
HOLY SHIT.
we found an arcade called Moai following Nykkel's directions. It had, i kid you not... one room... with
DDR EX
3 IIDX 9th
5 PNM 10
3 DM 8
2 GF9
machines in it. and that is IT. no other arcade games at ALL. JUST bemani. it even had signs like "no smoking, bemani only". and signs saying it was a high internet ranking bemani arcade. holy crap. and all the games were Y100 per play. so... we stayed there a while. heh. i played a whole ton of IIDX. i am getting a little better at it vaguely... like i mostly play 5 star and up songs only now... I think Silvia Drive is now my favorite IIDX 9th song but it's too hard on 7-key :( the other thing we did was go to the Sega arcade and play some games and get yelled at for taking pictures. but, i found a hello kitty UFO catcher game and i found a trick to it and won 4 kitties in like 10 coins, woulda been 5 but one got away unfairly. and i got a huge hello kitty at another one. was pretty funny. another east ikebukuro thing was a place with CDs for Y180. heh. anyway, i gotta go, but -- oh, we had tonkatsu for dinner. was good.
going home.
ill hopefully add more to this later.
ahhhh
i HAVE to add this now
we found in Shinjuku... a GAMES STORE. not like video games but RPG games. It was soo cool. The bottom floor was all Warhammer stuff - in japanese! wow! so i took some pictures and grabbed some warhammer pamphlets, heh.
then we went upstairs to the D&D part of the store, where suddenly he said i could not take pictures. so sad! it looked like Phantom of the Attic up there, no joke! like seriously, it was a real board game store and RPG and everything. They had a ton of games that i have and all... and tons of D&D stuff and dice.
I bought Kanji d6s.
Carl, you have to see them. And i also got the D&D 3E players handbook in japanese. it was like Y5800 but it was such an amazing gamer nerd souvenir that i couldnt help myself. I can barely read it, but it is just so freaking cool!
other things about today while i'm at it... aaaahhh i dont know. We went to so many game stores it seems... Tomorrow we are going to akihabara with james, which i am really excited about. And saturday muthos and sunday dave will be here and monday baseball. And in the meantime more bookoffs to fill in the time and i'm sure more east ikebukuro, since it was really exciting to be there. And i will someday finally get a duck out of those ufo catcher thingies.
i feel stupid since i paid another 100 yen for 10 mins of time when i only needed one minute.
Oh, also, the beatmania 6th marquee doesnt even fit in my luggage, is the funniest part - DJ is going to have to take it back to the states for me. But, dude. The lesson there is that maybe people in arcades will actually just give you the posters and stuff. I am going to try asking more places for stuff...
OH RIGHT we went to Gamers. Does anyone want a Gema plushie or another character whose name i forgot?
i also got a IIDX 5th but i think i-gene has claimed it.
