back in seattle
Jul. 8th, 2003 02:19 amWoke up and fumbled with plans, eventually getting lunch at Jason's Deli in the arboretum so Ben could join us, but he was feeling sick so he never actually ATE lunch with us. :( poor Ben! But he gave me a late birthday present of the Eddie From Ohio live album "Three Rooms" (it appears to be signed, even?!?!) and of a CD of Japanese indie bands from the South by Southwest music festival. Whee! So I guess that marks the end of visiting Ben in Austin, as now I'll visit him in NY or Philly or something.
Brad and Eli and I then went to A+R's apartment, where a game of Puerto Rico was about halfdone, with Oren, Carl, Kevin, Adam, and Nick playing. We got to see them for like half an hour (and settle our debts with the Bank Of Kevin) before all of the above except Nick left to go to the airport. :( I did get Eli to take a big group picture of us all but it looked like it didn't come out so well. We'll see. Zach showed up a little while later and we played some Monkey Golf which was intensely frustrating as it's such a slow game and not exactly how I wanted to spend my last few hours in Austin. Eventually Adam got back from the airport and he and Zach played bridge against me and Nick. Oddly, we did pretty well! It must be because I still adore Nick as a bridge partner (and because he got 15 gold masterpoints yesterday).
Rehana came back just in time to say goodbye, and then Brad drove me and Eli to the airport. We got there insanely early, planning to eat Salt Lick food and Amy's ice cream for dinner.. I got some BBQ and Eli got some ice cream and at like 6:15 they go "hey, anyone on the 7:39 plane to Dallas, come over to gate 14". I'm like "shit" and go over while Eli guards our table and stuff... the guy in front of me was talking about being rescheduled to the next morning and I started to panic, but then I talked to the guy at the counter and he's like "The weather sucks in Dallas so this plane is going to arrive late, we would like to bump you to an earlier plane to ensure you make your destination." So we got bumped to a 6:50pm plane instead and had to finish food quickly and I didn't get ice cream of my own. The Dallas leg of the flight was uneventful, I saw a huge rainbow when we got near Dallas, and the plane had to wait in the airport for like 10 minutes before it could actually pull up and let us off, and MAN did it get hot in there, but oh well.
We had a longer layover in Dallas, so I ended up walking like... probly a mile or two total, looking for Ben&Jerry's ice cream, which I never found. But I walked through like the A and C terminals and back, and eventually got Haagen-Dahs, and eventually got on the plane. The flight was REALLY BUMPY. I mean, I was pretty scared at a bunch of points, but Eli and I weren't sitting together so I couldn't even hold his hand or anything. I read 500 pages or so of HP5 again in the 3.5-hour flight, pretty much skipping over a certain two chapters. I was sooooooooo glad when that plane landed. It was pretty terrifying. Also, Dallas is gigantic. It's more obvious at night in the plane because the lights and roads just sprawl on for miles and miles before it finally all goes dark.
Josh picked us up at the Seattle airport! Yay Josh! Now I am home, I tried to catch up on some stuff, am failing miserably and I'm exhausted, so, goodnight for now. I have a bunch of thoughts about the trip, but I gotta get up in like 6 hours for work :(
