dr4b: (baritone)
Today I got up early to go down to Federal Way again for band practice with [profile] alegria_a. (Hey, hint to [personal profile] pauldf - I told you I was going to link to her.) Anyway, we got there WAY early this time, including that we picked up Jack, another baritone horn player who lives downtown. So we hung around, helped set up stands, etc. Rehearsal was kinda sparse for the horns. I think we had 13 people there at max, with no contras and like, 3 trumpets, 3 mellophones, and 7 baritone/euphoniums. We went over our pieces, and talked a lot about recruiting, and played more, and stuff. I've really got to get in practice for Bolero. Or I just have to stop sucking.

Joy took home a vibraphone, which we can fit in her car WITH my baritone AND Jack's euphonium. Scary big car.

Afterwards, Joy dropped us all off and stuff, me going straight to [profile] mh75 and Josh's house for their game party. When I showed up, there was a big game of Civilization going on, and some other stuff. Except that since I was absolutely starved, I made a beeline for food and totally stuffed my face. :) Then I went to hang out for a bit. Got into a game of Pit with the entire King/Jensen/whatever clan, which was entertaining for a while. Then Iron Dragon was suggested, and so we started a game of that.

It was, err, me, [profile] alegria_a (later [personal profile] katybeth's guy Seth subbed in for her), [personal profile] blk, [personal profile] pauldf, and err, [profile] mj2q's brother Luke. I got, as two of my initial contracts, the Wands to Kenare for 73 one, and the Dragons to Ozu-Ozu for 69 one. To my credit, I pulled off BOTH of them, with an Iron to Shayobh for 22 contract as the intermediary. It was pretty impressive. HOWEVER.

Many of you know I have this issue with Iron Dragon, namely that I CANNOT WIN THIS GAME. NO MATTER WHAT. Now... you might think I am being silly. HOWEVER.

I swear to any gods I'm allowed to swear to that this game was TRYING TO MAKE ME LOSE. Every single time an event came up that involved losing loads and losing turns, it would pretty much affect ME, and ONLY ME. Infact, not a SINGLE event came up during the game that didn't affect me somehow (although once the Old World flooded and it only affected a track I didn't care about anymore). I mean, it was fucking ridiculous. At one point I had gotten to Wikkedde by exact count, but needed to fulfill a contract in Ozu-Zarkh. No prob, right? Except that Luke drew the event that takes down that magical bridge for a turn. FUCK. So I lost another turn sitting there. I got hit by every single "lose a turn and a load" for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, all the move-at-half-speed ones, the can't-move-through-mountains, etc, etc, etc. Jesus fucking christ. I lost 7 turns due to whammies. It was getting absolutely fucking ridiculous.

And you want to know the ULTIMATE IRONY?

At the end of the game, when Paul won, I had all cities connected except Octomare, and had 207 GP and a contract to Eaglehawk for spells for 43 GP, and I had spells in my cargo, and could reach Eaglehawk in 2.5 turns.

DESPITE being set back 7 turns by the fucking game.

Goddamn, I now am fully convinced that game is just OUT TO GET ME.

Anyway, despite that I guess it was a good evening. I got a whole box of NES stuff from Colleen and Justin, and though it didn't have any games I'm truly psyched for (except maybe Rad Racer and Duck Hunt), it did have some that I can trade for stuff I want, if the carts actually work. And I got to see people, and play Iron Dragon, even if I am cursed. And Seth said he'd be willing to play it from time to time, so maybe I will get to win at a train game SOMEDAY. And I got to see Megan's trombone, and maybe I will convince her to let me teach her how to play it sometime.

Came home, been goofing off on computer ever since. I suck. Should sleep. I suck.
