Today was ok. I overslept again, got to work at like 10. I suck. I did start reading Death Gate 6 (Into the Labyrinth) on the bus this morning. I got food at Uwajimaya for lunch... I was kind of in a bad mood so I went into Kinokuniya, but I fortunately didn't buy anything. They have Eurobeat 130 again but I declined it. I might get 120 one of these days, but eh, we'll see. Anyway, the weird thing is that I was reading a random j-rock magazine, and I looked over and I thought the person standing 3 feet from me was [personal profile] zannah, but I wasn't sure, so I didn't say anything. Dumb me, because it was. :) Oh well, I'll do better next time at saying hi. I keep saying that, don't I...

I stayed at work because I didn't know where the heck Eli was, and I was debating what to do for the evening. There was a thread on the DDR BBS about going to Narrows, in Tacoma... so I ended up emailing with this guy Casey, and we deliberated over going to Narrows, for a while, and eventually I just figured, hey, what the heck, let's go. It's not like going to Tacoma with a random stranger could be a bad idea, right?

It turned out to be GREAT! Casey is really nice, and it works out well that he has a girlfriend (who was away for the weekend) and I have a fiancee (who was off somewhere taking pictures of boats), so we had tons to talk about for the 45 minutes each way driving there. Infact, I almost wished the trip was longer, because he was REALLY cool. It's so nice to meet a fellow mid-20's DDRer who is also a programmer nerd out here... a lot of the DDR people here aren't really as geeky as the DDR people back east were (well... I mean.. I guess most of the DDR friends I had for ages were CMU videogame CS nerds, right?). I mean, we talked about everything from the benefits of type-safe programming languages to DDR to Seattle drivers and so on.

Narrows is really wacky. It's in Tacoma, which smells funny, and is a bowling alley, which looks a little bit run-down from the outside, but you get inside and it's pretty spiffy. They had cosmic bowling going on, with flourescent bowling balls and loud music and mist... and then there was this gigantic arcade area inside the alley. They had 3 DDR machines (2 MAX2, one 5th), a PPP 2nd, a DrumMania 5th, a Guitar Freaks 6th, a Beatmania CM2, a PIU PREX, DanceManiax JParadise... and I am probably forgetting stuff. LOTS of games, all in really good condition. Lots of teenagers, also in good condition. The coolest part was the coin thingies on the machine... they had these coin slot things with 10 slots in them to put quarters in for a coin line. It was really wacky. Anyway, Casey and I played a whole lot of DDR, and I did some PIU, and some PPP, and DrumMania, and basically, I realized that if I want to qualify for the Narrows 2 tech tournament I am REALLY going to have to work at it. I suck. A lot. I'm really also not sure I can pull off any reasonable freestyle by myself. Eh... we'll see. Casey is REALLY good at DDR, even though he said he wasn't. Geez, *everyone* in Seattle is really good at DDR. Oh, but, hey, I passed My Summer Love on maniac pretty squarely. Reading the 1.5 side of the screen was really good for me. I should do that more. I also got, uh, halfway through Burning Heat Heavy on 1.5. I just need to up my stamina before I will ever beat that song. Blargh.

The only thing that sucked is, apparently all of these random Seattle-Tacoma-area DDR people did either go to Narrows and leave, or decided not to go, so I didn't meet many new people. But, I had a really good evening and a lot of fun talking to someone new. If only all the DDR players in Seattle were that cool :)

Came home, ate yakisoba, and goofed off online. Where the heck did the last two hours go? Oops.
