Life is settling down I guess

Today I wore one of the strap tanktops I bought a month or so ago, for the first time. I put my hair up in the chun-li-style buns and wore my baggy khaki pants and chucks and pretended i was dressed up as someone younger and hipper than i actually am. I got lunch on campus and played a bit of Boggle, and I visited Eli, and I talked to Mark Stehlik for a while, and then I went home. I played Simcity for a while and then changed out of the tanktop so I could go play bridge with Nick at Temple Sinai, where we only got a 45% game but at least I don't really feel bad about any of the hands at all. No real retarded things happened tonight, just a few missed judgment calls. We got dinner at Steak'n'Shake after, which seemed like a great idea at the time, but now my stomach kinda hurts and I'm feeling pretty dumb about it.

fiddlers and other stuff

I am still working on my Seattle entry because I suck. In some ways I want to know the result of the trip before I post it all.

Anyway, today I went to the lounge for lunch, which turned out to be a bad idea in some ways, because I didn't get laundry done this afternoon, I did eat double kofta saag for lunch and played Boggle though. I guess that was good. I met the lounge "straggler" who is... interesting, to say the least. I guess I always figure everyone in the lounge is going to be a freak in some way though. After the lounge I chatted with Catherine Copetas for an hour or so.

I came home and played SimCity because it was too late to do laundry. I called the Benedum back to go "what sort of seats are available tonight?" they said "We have two in Orchestra Row A, how is that?" So I bought them. The show is Fiddler on the Roof, for those not in the CLO know.

Eli and I drove downtown. I had a lot of trouble finding parking and as a result we got to the play right in the middle of the song "Tradition" (the opening number). Now, keep in mind, I know the entire show by heart, since I was in it in 11th grade. (Before you ask: I was male chorus. Yes, male. I sang tenor in my high school choir, remember.)

Our seats were fantastic (seriously, we were in front row center, right behind the "grand box" or whatever. The show was pretty good I suppose. I don't think the Tevye guy was bad. If anything I had trouble with the Motel guy; he was just way too whiny (you have to wonder why Tzeitel wanted to marry him). The Yente wasn't so great I thought; she was okay, but she didn't sound Jewish enough for the part. Almost all of the singing was decent though. Hodel's voice was amazing. I was disappointed in my favourite scene (the Grandma Tzeitel dream) though - at least in my highschool version, we put Fruma Sarah on rollerskates so she "flew" through the crowd... in this it looked like she was sitting on someone's shoulders. It was a little bit of a letdown. But Tevye throwing the pillow into the cymbals was pretty priceless. I also want to point out that Zach Halley, the guy playing Fyedka, was really good (in my highschool we had a girl sing his part because no male in our school could hit that high A that Fyedka sings in the L'chaim song. Well, one guy could, but he was cast as Motel already). I realized that I had seen him in something else... and in the program it said he graduated from CMU this year... and then I realized - he was the guy who played "Marty" in Company! That is, the part that was originally Marta, and was changed into a guy for the performance here. And he sang her part in full chest voice. Pretty amazing vocal range on this guy, and a good actor at that. (Plus I am feeling good about my assertion that "seeing people in CMU plays is a good idea since someday you'll be shelling out big bucks to see the same people on big stages".)

Anyway, except for the fact that this show triggers some odd memories for me, it was pretty good. I liked their set a lot, and our seats were just amazing.

So who wants to go see Guys and Dolls in a few weeks?
