Feb. 1st, 2002 02:11 amyou know, eventually someone else who listens to too much J-music is going to start reading my LJ and then I won't be able to feel like I have such great "obscure" daily title subjects.
Anyway, uh, I didn't go to the Brooks lecture today because I wanted to finish all of my web stuff before Kiltie Band. Besides, it was packed. He's the guy who wrote the Mythical Man-Month. Among many many other things.
So, I finished it, CVS-clobbered things, and sent mail out. I think I am done with the part of my project that directly affects other people. Now I can work on it in peace. Even more peace, if I can convince them not to make me go to Utah next week.
I was munchie-like around 3pm and ate some dried apricots, like in those little Sun-Maid boxes they usually have raisins in. I felt really nauseous and sick after that for an hour or two. It was weird. I was mostly ok at band though. Infact, only two of us baritones were there for the first half of band, and it was kinda cool - for some reason I always play better when there are many less of us there... makes me wonder if I do have the skills to play much better, and I just don't try as hard when there are a large number of us around.
Oh yeah, Carl is playing bass clarinet now. So that means he has to come to the band room to transport an instrument just like I do, and I can bug him to get Indian food for dinner more often! (Which is good because we probably won't be eating lunch together much anymore... at least not for the near future. Bleh.)
We started a song at Kiltie today called "Snakes!". it is REALLY dorky.
Ok, so the other day when I was talking to Fred, he mentioned that he swore he saw a DDR machine at D&B. I think I mentioned that here. Well, DDR Rebecca from Pitt was curious too, so she picked me up after band and we went to D&B. Fred is on crack - there is no DDR machine there. Just Pump. Grr. It was really disappointing - I felt sort of bad for dragging Rebecca there, but we had a good time anyway, even if we didn't get dinner because we spent the whole time playing Pump. Eric and Shell Pronko were there again, and those two guys from some software company on the waterfront (I still don't know their names, but the one guy is the boss and he's like late 30's, and the other guy is late 20's and has long brown hair and a beard, and last time his wife was there too). I played a set of hard songs with the older guy - we did Beethoven's Virus as the third song. I did the two cool spins I learned from Ross and Brian at the OGS party! Whee! Then Rebecca did a set with the older guy too. Then the two guys did a set, and the boss guy had to leave. Rebecca and I did a set of songs too, which was fun, we picked bouncy songs and made a point of acting like dorky kids dancing on the machine. We did Turkey March as our fourth song and failed miserably but had fun doing so. We left after that set, and there was a huuuuuuuuge crowd of women standing behind the machine asking the long-haired guy questions about the game and all - it was really weird. One woman said "you guys rock!" or something like that.
Anyway, she had Pitt anime club to get to, and I had to get home because I'd told Eli and my uncle that I'd be home around 8. I guess I made it home around 8:15...
...just in time to see Eli and my uncle Dennis walking into the building.
Ok, so this is my uncle the rabbi. He's a chaplain in the army and has been for like 20 years now or whatever. So although he is a rabbi and all, he was dressed in a full army camouflage suit, combat boots and all. Now this is my uncle who's in his early 50's and in my mind is the biggest geek in our family (not in a computers way, but in a I-spent-like-twelve-years-in-colleges-of-various-sorts-before-getting-some-random-degrees way). I don't think I ever saw him in uniform unless you count dress uniform with stripes and stuff (Oh yeah, so in addition to being a chaplain, he's also a Lt. Colonel. Go figure. I don't think you can get any higher than that in civilian divisions).
Well, basically, we came into the apartment and talked for about an hour and a half straight, and then it was getting on 10pm, so he left to get the 28X because he was staying out by the airport. Since he hasn't called or anything since then, I figure he got there ok. Well, I hope he got there ok. Or something.
After he left, Eli and I ate chili for dinner, and put laundry in to wash. I played a bunch of Para Para (I'm bringing it to Carolee's (well, MMA) tomorrow, so I wanted to practice some songs, but you know... I really do suck - I can either do the motions or do well at the game, but not both at once). I also read a bunch of LJ and D&D and stuff. But I still feel like it was an unproductive evening.
It was too warm today, too. I think it got up to at least 70. Rebecca has this theory that the seasons are just shifting - so it is now warm in December/January, and snows in April, or something. My theory is that it went up to 70 today and that indicates it will definitely snow in April. But, damn is it hot and humid in the apartment now. Ugh.
I kinda wanted to play board games with people tonight, but timing just wasn't on my side. It never is. I really had a great time the other night when I got to hang out with all of the awesome people around the lounge like Jason, Martin, Carl, Kevin, Dan, John, etc. But I guess I should be glad I'm weaning myself off Weaning. Unless I end up trying to get a job at CMU sometime soon... heh.
Also, an interesting phenomenon I have found is that sometimes I don't feel like telling people what I'm doing or going off to do, etc, except then I realize that wait, I'm going to post about it in my LJ anyway, so if I avoid answering or lie about what I'm doing, I either have to lie in my LJ, or... so maybe I'm just going to say something like "Well, I have stuff to do, but you'll read about it later." Because basically today I told my uncle I had rehearsal until 8pm, and I told Eli I was going to dinner after rehearsal which actually gets out at 6:45pm, and I forget what I told Carl, but, my actual plans were to go to D&B and check out the PIU machine, really, and I knew that I'd be back around 8pm because of when anime club met. So... hmm. I dunno.
Oh yah, I replaced my "hugging Dave Koes's stuffed cow in the cluster" LJ picture with this one of Touya Miho from Megatokyo. Now I can post to even more LJ communities. :)
