dr4b: (pouty)
I suppose I haven't updated since Monday night, so maybe I should do that now. I'm not sure why I haven't; I just haven't felt like it. But right now the office is really quiet as everyone prepares to go skip the afternoon and see LOTR with the office outing. (I am going to go to see it at 5:45 tonight, with a bunch of my wonderful zephyr friends (kw++) who want me to be the "control group", ie, "that guy", ie, the one who hasn't read the book. (Before you ask how it is possible for me to have read hundreds of sci-fi and fantasy books including at least a hundred combined Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance, etc, without having read Lord of the Rings... well, I don't know. I guess I just got start on the wrong stuff, and nobody in all of these years has bothered to correct me. (I seem to recall someone trying to get me to read LOTR around the same time I read SiaSL for the first time, when I was 11 or 12, and I didn't actually get into either of them, although I had read the Hobbit as a kid, and finished SiaSL a year later and ended up on a huge Heinlein kick...)))

So, Monday night we played D&D with Tal's group. Yay. I came up with a really great idea for once, but the timing really didn't work out. Also, I really think I need a new character. Of course, I want to be a dark elf or an assassin or something downright evil. How to make this work in anyone's campaign (including Dan's new improv-d&d one) is beyond me. I guess it's technically possible to be a non-evil assassin, maybe as a ninja or something, but... we'll see.

I spent time on campus yesterday for lunch since I went to pick up pictures from the UC. So I stopped by the O to "just play a last game of pinball for the year" but ended up getting lunch there and hanging out with Charlie Collins and Dan Jacobowitz for a while. Dan was also going to play pinball, but he had no quarters, so instead he went home to play more Civ3. Yeah, so I got gossip on a lot of random gaming groups from them, which is always fun. Charlie plays more games than I do, which is impressive - it sounds like he's in 5-6 roleplaying groups and still manages to also play a ton of video games and board games and work a full-time job. I guess the caveat here is that he doesn't also have a SO to deal with, which is where a lot of my potential gaming time goes. (Hey, not that Eli isn't the most wonderful person in my life and I would certainly rather have him than all the games in the world, although I know sometimes when I am *still* playing Simcity or SSX at 4am it might not seem that way.) Anyway, I played some pinball, then talked to jcreed out in the airport lounge for a bit, and then came back to work.

Last night I hung out with Carl and Kevin rather than playing bridge. We saw the Harry Potter movie (my 3rd time, Kevin's 2nd (but he has now read the books), Carl's 1st) using my movie gift certificates that Whizbang gave me for ranting about our intranet a few weeks ago. Having now seen the trailer for "A Walk to Remember" again after reading the book, I am even more convinced that it's going to utterly suck ass and not follow the book at all. Grr. The movie was fun to see again though. I think, much like the HP books, I could happily watch the movie a whole bunch of times, even with all of my nitpicks about it. After the movie we got dinner at Dave and Buster's and played Pump It Up until we got kicked out at closing (midnight). I tried a bunch of double songs in my last game - it's fun but really tough - the easiest songs are like lvl 4-5. (I found like one lvl 1) Kevin and I did a round of hard songs. He has gotten a lot better at this whole dancing-game stuff in the past few weeks. The D&B people have the PIU machine set to a really tough level AND autofail though, as opposed to the PIU machine we played on in NYC.

I wanted to see Drew before he left for break, since I skipped bridge, but he had an OS demo at midnight, so I just stopped by his house and left stuff for him. Oh well.

That's my story, I guess.
I decided to write a "cast of characters" thingy for LJ for people on my friends list who keep asking me who other people on my friends list are. I wonder if I'll manage to keep it updated.

Is this a good idea or a bad idea?
