cosmic encounter and worrying about going to MA
Tonight I went and played Cosmic Encounter with some friends out in Bellevue. (It was at Matt and Rumi and Jeff's apartment, and Phaedrus and Robert and DJ were also there. Yes, that's 7 people, but it worked out okay.) It was a lot of fun. They play really differently than people do at CMU, but it was still good. For example, we had two powers each, six players, yet managed to play three games in five hours. They do this thing where to choose powers, you deal out four flares to each player - you take one flare as your power, pick one for the player across from you, and discard the other two. It was weird. My first game I was Phantom and Spiff (I picked Phantom and gave Rumi Pentaform; she gave me Spiff). It was cool, I've never been Spiff before. It worked really well actually - if Robert hadn't won, I had a good chance of spiffing on my next turn.
Our second game, Matt sat out and DJ came in. This time, I was Clone Healer, which was great... I kept just keeping and healing and getting tons of cards. Changeling was in the game but I managed to never lose my powers. Jeff was Demon, and I was really lucky in that I had filched a Cosmic Zap early on... I won that game, but on my attack for my fifth base, it was like, we started the challenge, etc... and Jeff was like "And now I'm gonna..." and I threw the CZ at him like "Get cosmic zapped." I managed to win the battle but BARELY. I had a +5 reinforcement and Rumi had a +4 reinforcement. Whee. :)
The third game was relatively quick. I was Assassin Anomaly, but DJ was Healer something, so every time I assassinated, he just got more cards. But, Rumi was Schizoid, and the winning condition ended up being "at least 3 outside bases with 4 tokens on one, 1 on another, and 3 on another." Robert won completely randomly.
Matt and Rumi and Jeff have this totally awesome videogame/anime geek apartment full of videogames, controllers, computers, posters for various Japanese things... it's quite an awesome collection. Matt even gave me an E.T. 20th anniversary poster because he had a whole lot of them sitting around! It was so nice of him. It's one of those ones with the 3-D stuff on it so it looks like the guy is going across the moon, and all that. Whee.
I hung out for a little while afterwards (for the record, anyone who thinks that Sylffor and Met are mean on the BBSes, they're REALLY AWESOME in person. I'm just staying out of the whole TS thing... it's none of my business anyway), and then drove home, and have been packing ever since. God, I hate packing. I think I'm just not going to bring any CDs or music with me... my big suitcase is stuffed to the gills. My backpack is mostly empty. Hopefully this should give me enough space with gifts on the way back... but you never know.
