I got an N64, and some other stuff happened today

Okay, I went to work today and got done a lot on that project I hate but still didn't finish it because I suck. I guess if I'd stayed a little later I could have, but we were going to the Northwest Chorale thing (the concert [profile] thatmathchick and [personal profile] jeliza sang in) so I left a little before 7. I suck, I really should have had this done earlier this week. Oh well.

At any rate, the big excitement of today is that I went to Westlake at lunch and bought myself an N64, and a second controller, and Bomberman 64, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and Zelda Ocarina of Time 64. For some reason I pretended I was buying it for my brother or something... because I kept asking all these questions about quality, warranties, etc, so eventually I just said something like "well, it's a gift for uh my brother..." or something. Yeah. Anyway, the upshot is, I spent $130 (with tax) for an N64, extra controller, and four games. You know, 3.5 years ago I bought my first playstation for $130. Just the PSX, with the one controller. Weird. I bet an N64 cost around $150 then too.

Oh, yeah, and I ate a salad for lunch, and looked around in the Made in Washington store at some of their gift boxes. I think several members of my family will be receiving large amounts of smoked salmon and Space Noodles for Winter-Gift-Giving-mas.

Anyway, work, lunch, concert... came home and hooked up the N64 to the last remaining open spot in my RCA switchy thing. (I've got a 3-hookup feeding into a 4-hookup, so effectively 6 open spots - American PSX, Dreamcast, SNES, (PS2, JPS2, N64). The Genesis and normal NES both feed out coax - I've actually got a coax switch now too but haven't hooked it into anything yet. Anyway, it's exciting. I need to test my second NES actually, I might be selling it soon if it works. I've been lazy. Maybe I should go test it when I'm done with this entry.

I played a buttload of Mario Kart and GET THIS, ELI PLAYED WITH ME TOO and HE EVEN OWNED ME ON THE SPECIAL COURSES! Now if that isn't momentous, I don't know what is. After that I played a few rounds of KBM. Then I came upstairs around midnight and have been up here since.

I was theoretically going to go to IZ tonight to say goodbye to Robby, and unfortunately I was just lazy after getting home at 9:30. Turns out Crackoon was there, and he's going back to Japan tomorrow for winter break, and so I've still not managed to actually meet him. Oops. I guess there's always next year. Still, if I only knew him better I could bug him to go to Book-Off for me or something. :)

Yay for the Nintendo 64. I feel SO gratuitous. Mmm, consoles. I wonder if Eli's brother still has an N64, 'cause then I could like, start playing Zelda and bring the cart up to MA and keep playing it.

That's funny. I have all of those N64 games-- well, not Bomberman 64 anymore, but all the others. And your switch box setup sounds like mine, except I have two of those Pelican 4-slot things, so 7 places to hook things up.

Yeah, they're all in use.

Good games to look for:

Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and as bk1e said, F Zero X. Smash Bros would be a good choice, unless you have a Gamecube(then you should get the 'cube version), as would Rogue Squadron(again, if you have a 'cube...).

I'd expect to find them all at around $20 or less.

Mmm, gratuity. Err, gratuitousness. Err, mmm, N64.

I think that's a clear sign that you have a problem and should seek help. ^_^

F-Zero for N64 is a fun little futuristic multiplayer racing game.
