wow
today was a really really good day!
it started off with the morning, winning that coke and all. and Eli came to visit me in the international district at lunchtime and we found a kaiten sushi place (though it is only open for dinner) so i have to go back there sometime. anyway, we went to Tai Tung, a chinese food place, and had seaweed soup and pot stickers and a beef brisket hot pot. the potstickers were fantabulous, but i didn't much like the other food. and the unknown stuff in the hot pot sort of made me feel sick for an hour afterwards. but... trying new stuff is important. oh! and on the way to lunch, i ran into Paul Cassella! i was so surprised he remembered me from CMU, i mean i only really knew him from clusters, but still! he works out here at cray! it's so exciting to have more CMU people in the area, even ones i don't know well.
anyway, in the afternoon i got my webserver with mod_perl and mod_ssl and all the amazon stuff working. i was so happy! and a second after i said "yay! it works! i rule!" i had a nosebleed. it was SO funny. i was like "huh, I guess apache really CAN make your head explode." everyone was pretty amused by it, my nosebleed that is. tim was like "i guess deanna really IS one of us."
so work was good and fun, and i talked to a lot of people today and it was a generally feel-good day. people were pretty proud of me for getting stuff working so quickly, and i talked to binde some more, and then i went to uwajimaya to meet up with
aquatwo. except we both screwed up timing, so i thought he'd already left when i got there so i got on a bus (and I took the monorail! wheeeeeeeee!) and went to the seattle center. i played some DDR with this kid who was a newbie but who was really really nice. and there were some "good" players there too, so i felt compelled to do a tough set (like four maniac 7-8 footers in a row). and then i started coughing and hacking and wheezing and sat in the bathroom for 10 minutes trying to breathe. but then i could breathe! and the DDR machine was empty! so i went and played some more, mostly easy songs, spinning and stuff. and then
aquatwo showed up! it was funny since we were both wearing DDR arrow shirts. so we played DDR for like an hour or so. it was really really fun, even though my tech ratios were really awful, since he's like probly around the same DDR level as me (i think he's a little better, at least capable of passing harder faster songs than me, and he also spins! but he says otherwise. eh.) and it was also fun because he's a nice guy. it is always cool to meet nice smart people who play DDR and stuff.
anyway, i got exhausted relatively early, and i took a bus home. there was a woman with kittens on the bus! she had them in a bag and she took them out occasionally and cuddled them in her sweatshirt. they were SO cute. cute! kittens! sigh.
i got home and people are watching The Godfather, which I still to this day have not seen. so I am upstairs with megan's laptop, listening to dreams come true, and thinking "this is the life, except for it being like 80 degrees in here".
i guess i'm not going to philly for the funeral tomorrow. it's just as well. for a sad note in an otherwise great day.
oh yeah, and i miss carl, too. that would be the other sad note of the day.
