the strip, the flutterby forest, dancing, etc.

The Strip: Eli and I woke up early (where early is defined as like 10 or 10:30am) and called [personal profile] ralphmelton who came here and then I drove to the strip, doing an excellent parallel parking job outside one of the asian food markets. We went around a whole bunch of places, including Enrico's biscotti of The Bread, My Sweet fame, which I had never been to. I called Rochberg and got him to join us too for lunch. We went to Benkovitz so I could see the fish market and could get sushi. It was really fabulous sushi, some of the best I've had in Pittsburgh... go figure, it was in the fish market and all. After lunch we wandered around some more stores and I discouraged Eli from buying things that we wouldn't be able to transport across the country anyway, especially since Seattle has lovely asian food markets anyway. We went to Klavon's Ice Cream, which I had also never been to, and got shakes and floats and phosphates and malts, which were all very good, and it was an interesting store to tour since they have all of this drugstore stuff from the 1920's around.

Phipps: After the strip, we came back and dropped off Ralph near his car and went inside to rest a little, then headed to CVS to get film and then to Phipps. Because there was the auto show thing going on, we didn't manage to park and get into Phipps until a little after 4, and they close at 5, but since all I really wanted to see was the flutterbies, it was okay. So we went directly to the Butterfly Forest, and tried to take pictures of them. They're pesky little critters, you know, those butterflies, and they have this habit of landing on a flower, looking all pretty and attracting your attention, and then closing up so you can't really see them. Eh. We took a bunch of pictures anyway. We went into another room, then came back to see the butterflies again, and this time a lady was opening up the butterfly hatching cages and taking them out and releasing them, which was interesting and Eli got to take cocoon pictures. I got to see her pick up butterflies and throw them onto flowers and all. Whee! Eventually we went around some of the other gardens, and then got kicked out, so we went around the outdoor gardens for a bit and I showed Eli where Shelby's wedding was. The funny thing is, Eli likes flowers and stuff a lot more than I do... I guess it is good so that someday when we are married and have a house and stuff, he can do all the gardening and plant flowers and plants and stuff, and maybe I can mow the lawn or do something that doesn't require you to know anything about taking care of plants.

dinner: After a nap, I called [profile] treys back (he called while we were in the butterflies) and he said he would pick me up and then [profile] bn29 and we would go to dinner somewhere and then Wightman for swing. Well. We went to Max&Erma's, where our waitress's name was Deana. Except she pronounces it "Deena", and I told her how I'm a Deanna, but my name used to be spelled Deana when I was younger, and then I got it changed because I was SICK of being called Deena, except she says that she's sick of being called Deanna, so... go figure. Ehhh, so I guess that was the only really interesting thing about dinner. Well, and that Trey's car sort of broke down after, except it turned out it was just that the battery wasn't connected to its contacts properly or something.

dancing: So we went to Wightman, getting there at like 10:15. If Eric was there he already left or something... so the only people I knew there were Bryan and Trey, and Matt McHenry was there again, and I guess there are the "usuals" that I recognize but I don't really know, and Dave McWherter was there. So, I hogged Trey a whole lot, mostly for the ballroom songs (yay! we got to waltz to Rainbow Connection) and Dave actually danced with me a lot too, probably because I am leaving town and all. I did have fun dancing with him this time. I danced with a few random other people, I forget who. I had fun, at any rate. We stayed to the end and then Trey and Bryan and Dave and I went to Eat'n'Park, where we were seated near a ton of the "wightman crowd" who had like 12 people in a booth or something. Had a lot of strawberry stuff, including sprite with strawberry syrup, and strawberry shortcake, and... got to talk to Dave a lot which is good since I don't really see him all that often. Yay Philly people. I did test him on Philly accents, but unlike me, he actually pronounces "pitcher" and "picture" differently. Go figure.

Anyway, I have to go to sleep now. Bye.

Even if it takes a little while to zero in on the Seattle source for the Slovenian sour-cherry syrup, the web has it.
