philly phoo
Ok, some more detail. I got up today and debated going to Philly, but it just seemed like a good idea, so after waffling for an hour or two I got packed and got on the road. I called my dad at 2:20 apparently, so I guess I hit the road at 2:30. I got to my dad's apartment at 8:30 or so. I guess that's good time... it's something like 310 miles when you count getting to/from the turnpike, I think. And I stopped twice - once to eat, and once to just rest and go to the bathroom and all that stuff. I did notice that my legs and arms ached a little after a few hours of driving, and all I wanted was to rest my right foot. Cruise control would be nice. Anyway, the funny part was, when I was walking around stretching my legs at the second rest stop, my cellphone started ringing and it was
treys who wanted to hang out tonight. I was like "Well, that would be great, except that I'm at mile 220 of the PA turnpike on my way to Philly..." My original idea had me stopping off in Lancaster and Exton to play DDR, but it's Sunday and both of the places there close at 6pm, and I hit exit 19 of the turnpike around 6pm, so... I did drive 70-75 mph for most of the trip though, so I can't figure out why it took so long. Hmm. I had a lot of fun listening to music and singing along at the top of my lungs - more fun than I thought it would be, I suppose I've never really had a long haul in a car alone to sing along really loud. And I listened to stuff people never want to hear in the car, like Moxy Fruvous (Eli doesn't like 'em), L'arc en Ciel, Siam Shade, La'Cryma Christi (basically, I brought some of my J-rock tapes that I made like four years ago), and my DDR tape from the other day. Suddenly I kind of understand why
sorakirei and others like driving so much... there definitely is something sort of freedom-feeling about the whole up-and-going-300-miles-away-randomly and being-on-the-road deal. So I am vaguely looking forward to the drive home, actually, and I'm trying to think of what fun things I can do on the way... I'm thinking I'll stop in KoP for lunch at that sushi place
tesposit took me to back in February, and then I'll hit Exton or Lancaster on the way back (probly Lancaster even though Exton's closer to the turnpike, since Lancaster has a 3rd Korean 2 and Exton is just a 3rd).
When I got to the city there was very little traffic. I think it was about 15 minutes between the time I got off the turnpike at Valley Forge and the time I was trying to find parking in the lot at 8th and Chestnut that my dad always uses. I put Eli's car in a temporary spot there and came up here. Hung out with my dad for a while, and we watched some TV, and then walked to Wawa for hoagies and Tastykakes and vanilla coke, which my dad is also fond of. Then we moved Eli's car up to a real space, where it will stay until Wednesday, and Dad's going to let me use his car when I'm around here so there's less chance of me getting pulled over (He's kind of paranoid but apparently there's been some effort to make Philly drivers suck less or something) since it'll have a PA license plate and all.
The last hour I spent in my room here looking through old crap. It's amazing how much stuff I have here, and I don't really want it to be thrown away but I don't want to take it all back to Pittsburgh with me, either. Things like, memory glasses from my Bat Mitzvah, and old toys and jewelry and stuff (oh my god, if any of you remember plastic charm necklaces in the mid-80's... I found like 50 of them in my closet. With two audio tapes from Jem and the Holograms... which are in a box on top of the box that has my Optimus Prime and Megatron movie edition perfect condition transformers, among other things like Legos and Construx). Oh yeah, and I found my second grade class picture. I can still name everyone in it except two people, at least first names if not last. Freaky, isn't it? I think I might bring back my really big Lego sets, since they are cool looking, and I don't want my dad to give them away, but I might just box up the other stuff and tell him to store it all for me. It's a tough call. I also found lots of clothes I can't wear anymore, and I can't decide if any of it has enough sentimental value to not just give it all to Goodwill. Well, I might keep this one skirt I found - it was my first hippie skirt - I remember buying it in the Reading Terminal Market in late 1991. I'll see if it looks okay after I wash it. Yeah.
Gonna call Eli in a bit and maybe work on sewing, not necessarily in that order. I think we'll try to see my grandparents tomorrow, and I might get to meet up with Stewart, and since
thistleshush lives downtown now maybe I could nag her, and I was going to try to see Mitch sometime but it looks unlikely because of his work schedule. Bad planning on my part. Gaaah, two-day trips are just too short, especially when one wants to play a lot of DDR. :)
On another note, Friday was more fun than my LJ entry would have you believe. Ben bought way too much food and we sat really close to the stage at South Park, and Eddie from Ohio are pretty cool, and Eddie did a really good drum solo, and there were these cute kids with lightsticks. Aiton had a lot of friends there, and Matt and Guy came up and sat with us. (If
ssaiscps is wondering, yes, I mean Guy from Cedilla, and he's still riding the unemployment boat... I think he's gotten really apathetic about job hunting. He doesn't play as much pinball anymore either. Hmm, I wonder if I could hunt down Mark Plesko in Seattle and see if he'd play Medieval Madness with me sometime) The weather was really fantastic and I got Aiton and Ben to play Zircus Floucati with me while we were waiting for the concert to start, and it went over well with Ben even though he kept getting screwed by drawing cards. All in all it was a lot of fun, and afterwards Ben bought me a belated birthday present of EFO's album Quick, which I immediately got all four members of the band to sign. Yay! Aiton and Ben came back with me and saw my apartment and we hung out talking for a while. Since they have been my really good friends for like 11 years, it's always fun to hang out with them.
Anyway, I ought to go try to call Eli again. And look through more stuff in my room... blah, sorting stuff is hard. Let's smite evil.
