thursdays - free

argh, for some reason I can't myself to update. dunno why.

Anyway, today I was woken up by a phone call from Aiton. I went to lunch with Aiton and Ben at Pamela's. Aiton really wanted to go to the Mattress Factory (an art museum on the north side that I don't really like much), and it's free on Thursdays, so I gave in to going there. I called Eli since he really wanted to go there, and we went there. Getting there wasn't too bad. The exhibit itself wasn't as bad as it was last time. It was a lot of optical illusions with light, the coolest of which was the one outdoors where you sat in a tin thingy with an open ceiling which "framed" the sky, so to speak. After Eli did this "Gasworks" thing where they put you in a chamber and shine lots of bright colors at you, we left. Getting home kind of sucked since I forgot about rush hour and we got stuck in downtown for a while. Grr. I guess it was ok though.

After that I goofed off for an hour, then went to Lulus/Yumwok at 6 to meet up with people for dinner before bridge. Drew and Nick and Christina and I ordered too much food. Kevin showed up halfway through dinner, and then we all walked to Rodef together.

There was a good turnout at bridge. Me and [profile] nickjong, [profile] buoren and [profile] cdinwood, [profile] rmitz and [profile] mj2q, [profile] agh and jflinn, and Noble partnered with Gus (a really good bridge player from around here). Drew and Jason, and Roman and Mark were East-west but the rest of us were North-South, sadly. I guess there were 10 tables. Nick and I placed 7th out of 10, slightly ahead of Noble and Gus. Whee! I was having a really off night on bidding but a fine night on playing and defending, which is odd for me. I had one or two hands I was really proud of my defense on, really, including one where I hammered the declarer with spades. As usual, all of my really sad hands involved hearts. One was board 9, where 6H is cold on our cards, but we were in 5C because I didn't interpret Nick's 3H bid correctly. The other was board 11 where I was holding a hand with A72, AKT987543, -, 7. I had 4H in my hand! So the RHO opened 1D and I overcalled 4H and the LHO bid 5D and made it and I was very very sad. In retrospect I should have just bid 5H at that point. It's a better result, unless I think 5D is going down, which I wasn't sure of.

Anyway, after bridge I came home. I don't know where the last 2 hours have gone. I should have been cutting cloth but instead I was goofing off.

Hello to all of my old friends from CMU who have recently found my journal. Gosh, I've been on this thing almost a year. Scary, huh? It's going to be weird to use it to keep in touch with people after I move away in less than 3 weeks...

yeah, well... some of us are slow on the uptake... :)

are you still thinking of going to Otakon? if you do, and you run into a guy named Andrija (Andy/Kosh) Popovic, tell him you went to school with me. He is one of the people that started Otakon in the first place.

and Belated Congrats on Cool Job stuff :)
