weddings and stuff

Well, pretty much all we did today was the wedding.

Yay, congrats Laurel and Jason! Yay wedding. Laurel had this amazingly cool dress where the sleeves were as long as the dress and her arms came out through a hole in the middle, which I was trying to figure out for ages. It turns out that Leslie and Jo made it for her, too, which is even cooler. The bridesmaids all had black and dark red dresses that apparently came from a Ren fest. That is just way cool. (The guys had normal tuxes, but hey, they're guys :)

The service itself was cute. They did vows and other stuff that they'd written themselves, so they were all very cute and funny and made everyone laugh. It's weird, it's just like, Laurel and Jason go so well together that in some ways it doesn't seem like they were even getting married today, but more like they have been married for a long time and decided to invite all of their friends and family to a party today. (Nothing wrong with that! Great party, too) I tried to take pictures, but was at a bad angle. Regan had everything pretty well covered, anyway.

Eli and I were at a table with Ben and Tara, and with Bill and his guest whose name I have forgotten. Bill is a guy from CMU ballroom that I sort of knew. I got to dance a swing dance with him early on in the party, to zoot suit riot, and we were one of like three pairs to actually make it through the entire song. I was pretty zonked afterwards, but it was way fun - he's a great dancer. I tried to teach Eli to dance, but it is hard to do. We'll have to work on it sometime.

I got to dance rumba and cha and swing quite a bit with people. I even led Barbara in a waltz - that was fun! she is really good at following.

Rob (slater, my ex-boyfriend from senior year at CMU who is now married to Jen) was the best man and made a toast, so we all threw toast at him that Ben had run home to make. It was amusing.

Oh, and they had this gag where, instead of ringing glasses, if you wanted the bride and groom to kiss, they had put Trivial pursuit cards on the tables and you had to ask them a question - if they got it wrong, they had to kiss, if not, they didn't. At one point Chris Lee got up and said:

"Hmm, this card has three questions on it. Odd. What.. is your name?"
They said, "Sir Lancelot!"
"What, is your quest?"
"To seek the holy grail!"
"What.. is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?"
"An african or european swallow?"
"I don't know! *kisses his girlfriend*"

I was thinking of going up with a question like "In Final Fantasy 6, what is the name of the esper you acquire in Narshe that can also be a sword?" or something, but never got the nerve to.

Anyway, I got to see a lot of my friends that I don't get to see very often, and dance with people, and hang out with everyone, and so on. I took a lot of pictures, though I dunno if any of them will come out all that well. And Ben and Tara's cats are being really annoyingly cute but they keep bolting any time I try to take pictures of them. Grr.

Tomorrow we fly home... and then later this week I go to Austin. yay. I saw Jason and Julie, who are now engaged as well - this is a mental reminder to make plans to see them in Austin.

It's weird, I am a little sad at missing the homecoming stuff and the Matrix game and all, but I am glad I came out here. It's always good to see people get married. And I mean, I've known Jason and Laurel practically forever. Like, it was funny to meet Laurel's parents and be like "Hi, I'm Deanna. Laurel stayed with me when she was visiting CMU to look at it, years and years ago. Somehow she decided to come there anyway..." and all. And geez, I've really known Jason since the beginning of freshman year, since we were CS freshmen together and all. Sigh... sometimes I look back on times like when Jason and Meltzer and I were 15-212 partners and were working in the basement of Mudge for like three days straight on a project, listening to Keith's 8-tracks and gangster rap, and it feels like another lifetime ago or something. Sigh.

Well, anyway, that's a lot of babbling for me. I'll see you all in Pittsburgh sometime this week. Infact, someone should let me know when the heck I will actually see Sean, for example. Yeah. Ok. Bye...

Yay, glad you had fun! :-)

Also, yeah, it really does feel like we've been married forever. I remember one time a year ago Tara, Ben, Heather, Jarrett, and us went to the Naked Fish for dinner. Sometime in the middle of dinner Jason and I had a silly semantic argument. They all look at us and say "You're guys are more married than we are!" :)
