my birthday

I started off the morning listening to the soundtrack from _Company_ because it's the most appropriate day of my life to listen to it (being my 35th birthday and all -- WTF). Still resonates.

At work, Jason brought me in a chocolate cake, which I shared with him, Jordan, Chris So, Mark K (whose birthday was recently too), interns Lucas and Danny and Amulya, and then I put it in the kitchen for whoever wanted it. Charlie gave me a box of mochi that is still in the fridge at work, and later in the day Jordan gave me a box of random Japanese sweets too that are at home.

It was a mostly normal day aside from that -- for dinner I organized people to go to the Melting Pot in San Mateo. Cody had gone to Seattle for the weekend -- his dog had cancer -- so originally my plan was for 8 of us to go (me, housemates Jenny and Phil, coworkers Jason, Jordan, Charlie, Chris S, Chris S) but then Cody came back so we made it 9. What this ended up meaning was that we got the entire back of the restaurant to ourselves! An 8-person table turned into TWO 8-person tables. So there was a lot of fondue and a lot of fun. Because I was the birthday girl people mostly let me pick the things for the pots on my side of the table (which was Phil, Charlie, Jordan and Chris), so we got their seasonal Boston Lager cheese fondue for an appetizer, the coq au vin soup for cooking entrees, and Flaming Turtle for dessert with WAY too much desserty dippy stuff, I swear I've never seen a group leave that much leftover. I think it's possible they gave us extra stuff since it was relatively empty there and we had so many people and all.

The funniest part of the evening was probably how one of the waitresses decided that Chris had really nice hair and kept telling him that, including just calling him "Pretty Hair" at some point, which we all immediately decided had to be his new nickname. (He has shoulder-length thick straight black hair; he got a haircut a few weeks ago that I thought was kinda feminine at the time but has grown in really well for him) The funny part about this is that IMO, if you were going to pick one of the two Chris S's to call "Pretty Hair", it would be the other Chris, who has long reddish-blonde wavy hair in a ponytail and is infact sometimes referred to as "long-haired Chris" when people need to differentiate.

Anyway, it mostly worked out as a nice evening. We had a slight shuffle to get everyone back to the city, but since Pretty Hair lives pretty close to where we live, Phil and Jenny and I took him with us, Jordan drove home south, and then the other three C's had to cram into Jason's tiny car to get back to Millbrae (I think). Not sure how that worked, but I'm not going to worry too much about it :)

Oh yeah, got in my t-shirts for our Shinteki team. 4 days left till Decathlon, whee!
