In Seattle!
I'm in Seattle! More specifically, Ballard. More specifically, Carl's couch. :)
Let's see, the rest of this week was somewhat uneventful aside from work or lack of work... that is, all I really did for the days was go to work, do stuff there (some of which was work, some of which was goofing off), and come home, and do stuff there.
Most of what I did at home this week was, I unpacked the suitcase and box that I'd taken from my dad's apartment after he died... the box was stuff I'd packed before he died (and he sent it to me in Seattle actually, it is the last thing I ever received from him), the suitcase was stuff I packed when I was there after he died. The box is mostly filled with papers and stuff from high school, a little bit of college, etc. The suitcase is like, CDs and vinyl records, but also cards and letters and other things. It's pretty crazy going through this stuff, lots of flashbacks to high school and the philly BBS scene and other things I don't really usually think about, especially math team and governor's school and some of my friends. I guess it's odd that there's not too much specifically from my dad, though I've got a bunch of the cards and postcards I sent him (along the lines of "hey, I'm in Japan again, but I think you know that") and such. Funny is also reading letters from penpals when I was 9-10 years old, and lots of old stories/etc that I wrote in high school. And now that I look back I already wrote these flashbacks three years ago.
I dunno.
Anyway, I'm not even quite sure what to do with all the stuff. Maybe consolidate the papers all into one box, and throw the music in with the rest of my CDs/etc? I don't even have a phonograph player anymore. On the other hand the vinyl has sentimental value even if I can't listen to it. Eh. It's like whittling down my past life bit by bit, essentially.
I've had a pretty weird emotional swing this week as well, but not going to talk about that in a public entry. I guess as the year draws closer to an end, I find myself thinking about a lot of stuff. Wait, who am I kidding, I always find myself thinking about a lot of stuff.
Also I'll be playtesting the Dr. When game in February and I'm psyched! I need to get involved in the puzzle community down in the Bay Area, so hopefully this'll be a nice start.
Today I packed in the morning, went to work, and then left work around 5:20pm to come to Seattle. There was an accident on BART, and so even though I got to the station by 5:40, the train was held up, so my airport train was like 10-15 mins late. I thought I'd get to the airport at 6:15 originally, but instead got there like 6:30, for a 7:15 flight. YIKES! But get this -- I was randomly upgraded to first class, which meant I could skip the entire security line and go to the special line and just walk right in, pretty much. So in the end I was about 5 minutes early for boarding.
The great thing was being in first class, but sadly I was in the first row, too, which meant no seat in front of me. I took a few things out of my backpack for the trip, including a stick of Mentos (which I chew on so my ears don't pop), and when the plane took off the Mentos went flying out of the pouch thingy and rolled somewhere backwards and I don't know where they ended up. Oops :) But other than that the flight was uneventful. First class gets snacks, and I hadn't eaten dinner, so I had a banana, and then I slept for like an hour.
Carl picked me up at the airport in Seattle which was awesome! and he had cookies for me, which was awesomer! And then we came back here to Ballard and it's awesome!
Funny story:
Me: "Hey, Bob Rost and his wife Erin live somewhere near you."
Carl: "How do you know?"
Me: "I can see their wireless."
Adam and Rehana live upstairs from Carl actually, but are apparently out of town until tomorrow night. Oops. Well, hopefully I'll see them sometime. I'll be at Carl's until New Year's itself, then Mike gets back to town and kidnaps me. Then back to SF on Tuesday morning.
