Random updatey stuff

So last weekend I was back in Seattle, but there's not a lot I can say about it. We ran our first puzzle beta, and that really did take up most of the weekend; Friday night we had a pre-meeting and then Mike and I went to dinner at Maneki with people for Oren's birthday, which was actually pretty cool. We had good food, and I managed to pour a ton of sake for Carl (I wasn't drinking any). Wish we could have done karaoke, but we started at 8:30pm, which was pretty late anyway.

Saturday and Sunday were pretty much spent at MS. We had two puzzling groups, one of which was like 9 interns who will play in IG this coming weekend, and then another which was kind of assorted of various pieces. I spent a long time observing groups, maybe not having quite a good enough poker face, but I did my best. What was very satisfying to me at least is that (almost) all of my puzzles not only got picked up, but they got solved, by both groups in most cases. Of course, this may mean that my puzzles are fairly easy in general, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. The bad part is that some of our truly difficult stuff never got worked on, just because, well, there was easier stuff for people to work on.

I enjoyed watching the interns' group solve stuff. They remind me of what our team was like, 7-8 years ago. There was one really funny (to me) moment where I went in to tell them to stop flooding the system with guesses since in a real event they'd be locked out, and I was sick of watching their submissions come through. I go back to the room to go fetch the person in charge of the puzzle they were overguessing on and in the meantime a submission comes in for HELLODEANNA. I go back in like "You guys think you're funny, don't you..."

I napped from 6-9am on Sunday, and Mike and took a detour home for showering and to go buy bagels. But other than that I was awake and at MS from 9am Saturday to 8pm Sunday. Whee.

Had a pretty horrific Monday morning when I woke up at 6:30am to find out my flight to SF was cancelled, and I was rescheduled to 5pm. I called United and got on a 10am flight connecting in Portland, so rather than landing in SF at 12pm I got in at 3pm. Bleh. Portland airport was okay though there were some ticket snafus.

I'm staying with John and Cat this week, though so far I've been a horrible guest as I get stuck at work late playing Tichu because I'm very bad at turning down people. Tomorrow should hopefully be better as I'm hoping to duck out and check out a volleyball pickup group at the YMCA, if I can get the courage together to do so. I'm so out of practice, but we'll see.

Also, I'm in San Francisco for the upcoming weekend, so if anyone wants to hang out, let me know. I'm also thinking it'd be fun to try to go to an A's game next week, or maybe try to sneak into the Phillies-Giants in 2 weeks though that seems difficult. Bleh.

YELLOWDEANNA makes a lot more sense now.
