Friday -- Plane Nightmares a-plenty
So, thanks to going to the Giants game on Thursday night, I planned to go home from SF on Friday morning, to get here in time for Puzzle Hunt. My flight was at 11:16am, which meant getting in at like 1:30pm, I figured an hour and a half to get to MS, and then drive home for a bit, finish my puzzle and print it out, etc.
So Jenny was nice enough to rent a zipcar for an hour to drive me to the airport. We left around 9:45am, and it was fairly quick, like 20 minutes there. So I get to the airport... unlike the Thursday nights, Friday morning has a huge line at security. But whatever, no big deal. I get through it and go to my gate, stopping by to get some snacks on the way. Except I get to the gate and find out that MY FLIGHT HAS BEEN DELAYED TO 1PM.
WTF?
Well, I'm hungry, and the podium is completely stormed by people, so I go to Burger King and get a Whopper, and then I decide that there's basically no real choice except to wait. I find a laptop desk, plug mine in, and start working on the puzzle I hoped to playtest that day. I basically ended up doing that for like 2 hours, because the flight got further delayed to 1:50pm. Apparently it was a connecting flight from Santa Ana, and that morning's flight got cancelled, so they had to get us an aircraft.
Finally get on the plane around 1:30, and promptly fall asleep. It took off at 2:30, anyway. Got in to Seattle at... 4:05 or so? I make my way to the light rail as quickly as possible and am on the 4:28, which gets me to Westlake like 5:10. I miss the 5:10 bus and then have to wait like 15 minutes for the next 545 bus. Turns out there's an accident on 520, so we just SIT THERE for bloody forever, and I finally get to Microsoft at like 6:10pm. Mike gets me from the transit center and by the time I get to our PH meeting, the main meeting has broken up in favor of playtesting. Sigh. But, Adam and Rehana playtested my puzzle for me, so that was at least good. Hooray.
It was really pretty stupid, I should have been in Sammamish at 2:30ish originally. I'm used to this commute taking 5 hours, not 9.
Anyway, we went to Ooba's for dinner after that. They've changed their menu a bit.
It's funny, despite the entire plane situation being kinda frustrating, I never actually really lost my calm at all. Am I getting old? Maybe. I guess it didn't hurt that the only real result of the delay was wasting time in an airport...

I realize I'm all the way out here in the sticks, but any chance you want to meet up and hang out or visit for a bit one of these weeks? I'm not averse to heading up to SF and seeing you, though I'm a parking wimp and would probably try to figure out some way to keep it close to BART. (And, actually, I have no idea how traffic gets up there during rush hour... never wanted to find out...)
