Weekend part 1, before I get too far behind. And new laptop!

Yeah, so I am posting this from my new Toshiba A660 series laptop with its 6GB of RAM and quad core processor and all that shit. I figure, I got a job, it's finally time to update the laptop that has been dying for over a year now (and has recently taken to hanging on random things and overheating and shutting down for the hell of it). I feel a little weird because I've had nothing but HP computers for a decade, but whatever.

But I'm ahead of myself. Let's see. Friday, after dropping Mike off from work, I thought about what I wanted to do for lunch/etc and realized... I wanted to go downtown. And I had his car. So I went downtown. I went to REI first to look at jackets on clearance -- I've had my current coat for like 5 years and it's really wearing out, but I haven't found anything that I really like for a price I'm willing to pay, so... I still haven't, since REI mostly just had raincoats. Oh well. Looked at some other stuff there and moved on to main downtown. I had Thai food from Westlake, walked around a few blocks, saw some kids singing in the triangle open area by Westlake (they were called "Son Seekers" and sang about how much they love Jesus -- by "some kids" I mean like 40 set up like a choir).

Played Pop'n at Gameworks. Some of the buttons are sticky, but other than that it was at least fun...

On my way out of Gameworks I noticed a whole lot of people waiting outside the Grand Hyatt hotel. Couldn't figure out why until I realized a bunch were wearing Yankees jerseys and there was a bus parked there -- it was the Yankees fans waiting for the Yankees to come out. Sheesh. I did not bother waiting and instead headed back towards Pacific Place, where I'd parked, and where I went through B&N a little before leaving.

Spent the afternoon back in the suburbs doing laundry and stuff.

We had PH meeting, though not many people were there, so we didn't get a ton done, either. Afterwards, we convened with our cohorts in Snake on Rye so we could talk about WHO plans, at a Mexican restaurant called Tu Casa. (To be fair, 5/6 of us are on Liboncatipu, but Shane isn't, so we had to arrange to meet him.) WHO is going to be fun! Except I just realized that OH SHIT THAT'S THE WEEKEND THE PHILLIES ARE HERE, SO I'M GOING TO MISS IT ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH.

Andy invited us over to play Seven Wonders after that, and he also invited over "the other Ben", since our Ben was off to England or whatever. Jamie played one game with us, then it was just four of us for two more games of Seven Wonders, and THEN we sat down to watch two more episodes of Firefly. (Did I mention how a few weeks ago we started marathonning Firefly with Andy? Maybe not... it was during the Week I Didn't Blog.) So it was past 1am by the time we left.

Saturday was a work day for Libon, but it was also a Hero day for us -- I'm back into the RPG fold, finally. We're doing a split campaign thing, which may or may not work. My group was me and Carl and Zach as players with Django as GM (Konstantin will join us next time), and the other group was Lu, Jess, Dave, and Mike as players with Nicole as GM. Apparently their group is a lot more inclined to beat things up and be decisive than we are. Oh well, we'll get better as we get to know the system. My problem is that I picked a character deliberately that is smart but no presence, so it's hard for me to make her want to actually step forth and do anything, which is kind of a problem. I'll take a different path next session, I guess.

After RPG, everyone else went to get food, and Mike and I went to MS, to the Libon work day... except by the time we got there, only Jonobie remained. Oops. So we did a little work and then headed to Fry's! I got my new laptop! Well, more like... I was indecisive for 2 hours, walking from laptop to laptop, basically trying out the keyboards. I don't care so much about how good it can play videogames or any of the stuff they usually try to sell you on for laptops these days -- I was like, "am I going to be able to sit here and type tons of text on this thing?" It feels like a lot of the new keyboards are a lot more rigid and spaced apart than they used to be, and the laptops I liked just didn't feel comfortable to type on. Well, we were followed around by a salesguy named Oscar for a while, who kept telling me which ones were on sale and trying to talk to us about random stuff as I sat there typing on various laptops... eventually we got him to go away and just discussed the laptops ourselves.

And I decided on the Toshiba just... I dunno, the keyboard seemed good, the laptop battery time is insane, and it's quad core and all. Whoosh. But by the time I decided, it was like 9pm and the store was closing. We got out of there around 9:30ish.

Andy invited us over again, so we went to his place, where we watched the rest of Firefly, and I played with my new laptop, and backed up my old laptop, and so on.

I have to admit that Firefly was very good and I too am now kind of angry that it got cancelled like it did. WTF?

Ok, it's late and I'm tired, so Sunday will have to wait.
