六大学開幕戦など

I woke up this morning feeling like utter crap, and it was raining, so I took my time getting to Jingu (like, I went back to sleep for an hour, etc). Arrived in the 5th inning or so of the first game of the day, Waseda vs. Todai. Ogura had an extra ticket so at least I didn't spend any money on one today. I tried to get a Keio cheer book from the ouendan who were setting up but they told me no, because I wasn't in the student section.

Anyway, Waseda only beat Todai 4-0, which can be attributed to Boy Wonder Shota Suzuki, the Todai now-sophomore who actually won a game last year. He pitched all 9 innings, gave up 4 runs (3 earned), struck out 5, walked 0. Honestly not bad, especially against last semester's victory team. Kensuke Ohno started for Waseda, I guess he's the new ace, maybe. I hear Takaaki Yokoyama might start tomorrow -- I really liked him when he was at Koshien, so it'll be frustrating if he pitches well for Waseda :) No, just kidding.

I sat for the first game with Kobayashi and Ogura. We were covered in raincoats and all. The funny thing is, they decided to cancel the second game -- even though the rain wasn't hard. And so like, 20 minutes after everyone gets outside... the rain just stops.

The Keio boys were actually out there anyway so I said hi to a few people, gave a bag of candy to Hayata Itoh since he's the captain now like "hey, I'm going back to the US next week so I hope you are in the Japan-US tourney because I wanna come cheer for you" and he was like "well I guess I'll have to do my best to get there...! Thanks!"

The crazy crazy moment was when Kobayashi pulls my arm like "come here!" and I'm like "WTF?" and I see Ogura talking to this really dapper young man who looks almost like some kind of fashion model, wearing a striped shirt and a stylish jacket, with one of those hairstyles that looks like something the Arashi boys would have. And I do a total doubletake because THAT PRETTY-BOY IS MASAHIRO NAGASAKI! (The Keio catcher from last year that we all adored.) He apparently came to the game with two Todai coworkers of his at Marubeni... how bizarre. It was good to see him and all but it was very strange too, he's still very nice and polite like he was as a college ballplayer but he just looks so different!

I tagged Shuhei Iwasaki, the Tokyo captain, to sign a photo for me. And then I was a moron and let the wind blow it onto the pavement. But it seems to be okay... I was just so embarrassed for being clumsy.

The Waseda boys still take a bus back to their dorm, but they don't do Operation Human Shield like they did in the Saitoh days. So I think if I was more active I could have probly tried to get a photo or a signature from some of them. Maybe.

After the game I met up with Shinsuke in Shibuya and he took me to some crazy all-you-can-eat curry place for lunch. I was starving so I filled up my plate with rice and curry and some other stuff they had like corn salad and udon. And then I ended up feeling really crappy and couldn't even finish my plate (whereas Shin finished two plates of food), even though the curry WAS tasty. Sigh. The curry place was really pretty wacky, it had this kinda... I'm not sure how to describe it, almost a weird southwestern/mexican feel to it, in terms of the colors and there being blinking lights and whatnot. But over each table there was tons of manga, so people were just sitting there reading manga and eating curry. And since it was near Omotesando, all the people in there were fairly trendy. Very odd.

Shin was like "Usually I'd say we should walk to a park and look at rainy hanami but you know what? I'm going to tell you to go home and PACK. NOW."

So I came home and spent like 4-5 hours doing some work towards packing. Mostly I did things like going through some stuff and throwing things out and making piles of stuff to pack together, essentially. I did laundry, too, so I have to wait for that to dry before I can pack some of it...

I'm debating whether to take my photo printer with me. (Canon Selphy CP740.) It's little but it seems that the photo paper sizes are different between here and the US.

I ran off to Ikebukuro for about an hour and a half to print some photos in big size to maybe get signed tomorrow if I'm pushy enough. And I got sushi at Tenka for dinner... I'd had late lunch anyway.

Now I'm tired so I'm going to sleep again and maybe wake up earlier tomorrow.
