dr4b: (fighters hichori GO!)

Another day in Tokyo

Graduation was tremendously good. Only bad part is the realization that it's the last time I'll see most of those people ever again -- it's kinda like having my heart broken all over again from December.

In the evening I had made plans with my Fighters fan friend Sakamoto to go to Yakiniku Erika (Hichori's parents' restaurant) for dinner. We were supposed to meet at 6:30pm or so at Nippori. Only thing is, when I got to Akabane at 6:20, the Keihin-Tohoku line wasn't running -- there was some problem with it and it was indefinitely "delayed" at the time. Fine. I figured I'd take the Takasaki to Ueno and double back to Nippori and be a little late. Only thing is, while on the Akabane-Oku leg of that trip, something went wrong in Omiya and the entire Takasaki Line got stopped.

So I was stranded in Oku, near my JHS. And quite late. After a bit emailing back and forth I ended up walking from Oku to Tabata, which took like 15 mins, and then took the Yamanote from there. Met Sakamoto at Nippori station at 7:10pm. Oops.

But, we had a good dinner and caught up on stuff. Bizarrely he both thinks "it's too soon to start baseball after the tragedy" AND "man life sucks with no baseball I wish we could hurry up and start the season already." I don't get Japanese people sometimes.

And for the record, there's more Baystars stuff there than there was before but it's still overwhelmingly Fighters.

So, I guess I encountered a little of the train instability everyone's been talking about. And a tremor did shake my house at 5:30pm or so. But it really wasn't that big a deal...

When are you coming back?

I have a dumb question. I thought you ended up planning this trip because buying a return ticket was so much better value than a single flight? But... since you ultimately need to be States-side, won't you need to be buying a single air flight back home after this trip?

I don't think his baseball-related thoughts are that incompatible with each other, really. He agrees that it's too early for them to be playing baseball because of the tragedy, but he really wishes they'd get over that, because he wants to watch it.

Didn't seem that bizarre to me.

I drew the same conclusion. It's kind of like Doug--he wishes he'd been there for the earthquake (once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience something like this), but at the same time he's glad we're safe in Denver.
