Earthquake, 8.8, Miyagi

I hope all my friends in Japan are okay.

I'm a little freaked out and wondering what it'll be like to be there in a few days.

Best wishes from here.

We didn't suffer any damage, but I can't say about the Akabanenishi house. I'll try to check tomorrow.

I'll say this, though, it is surreal to watch a tsunami happen live on TV....

Where in Japan are you planning to go? Tokyo downwards southbound will be fine, but if you're going to Sendai or Hokkaido you might want to re-think.

Hokkaido is in way better shape than Sendai is as far as I can tell. Seems pretty safe here.

Hakodate got hit by the tsunami, so I wouldn't say _all_ of Hokkaido is okay.

What airline are you using? You might want to check how the flights have been affected. Several U.S. to Japan flights have been grounded after several were diverted.

Hey, I'm fine. Nagoya's alright. That was a rough quake though.

While I'm thinking about it, I was told that Nintendo of America is hiring full time translators for technical stuff, programming related. Maybe you should apply! I can give you the details if you're interested.

The state department is advising against all unnecessary travel to Japan.

Yeah, I get the feeling you shouldn't go back yet. The new says there will be strong aftershocks for weeks, and the airports are a mess.
