happy new year!!!
I had an uneventful day on purpose.
Infact the most eventful thing might have been discovering that Anrakutei doesn't do lunch specials around New Year's, so I punted on my idea for cheap yakiniku and instead just got cheap katsudon at Katsuya (had a coupon, so it was 414 yen).
Then I did 2 hours of solo karaoke at Karaoke-kan, it turned out to still only be 40 yen per 30 minutes!! I had an intention to record myself singing some stuff, except my voice recorder instead had an intention to run the hell out of batteries. Doh. So I recorded myself singing about 7 songs before it gave out -- Akai Sweet Pea by Seiko Matsuda, an Ellegarden medley, Natsumatsuri by Whiteberry, a Puffy medley, Dear My Friend by ELT, Kiseki by GReeeeN, and Nakayoshi by Spitz, and then battery DEAD grr. I guess I'll have to make an effort to go at least a few more times before I leave Japan to record more stuff. For a first try, these don't sound too bad, but I kinda screwed up the singing at times.
The only downside was that the room got really cold for some reason -- seriously, I checked with my keychain thermometer and it was around 60-65 degrees in there F. The AC was actually blowing cold air. WTF. I guess I could have complained about it, but was too lazy.
On the other hand I pushed myself to do even more songs that I'd usually never touch with a ten-foot pole... and I guess maybe I have improved my reading speed a little because I could actually follow stuff better than I remember being able to. And if I get to see Kon and Ian again before they leave I may even manage to sing some Aikawa Nanase for them.
I grabbed some bakery food on the way home and some sparkling strawberry soda that I completely forgot about. OOPS
And then I cleaned up my middle room -- the one between my room and the spare room -- and set up my kotatsu in front of the TV. (I had to clean up the room because the kotatsu takes up basically the entire floor space that isn't taken up by TV or bookcases or whatever.) Then I sat at the kotatsu for like 6 hours to watch Kohaku Uta Gassen and to esnd emails to ninety billion people around midnight. I kinda liveblogged Kohaku on Facebook actually, and spent the time chatting with my friend Akinori, who was also at home watching Kohaku alone and sitting on facebook and wanted to practice English.
I don't want to clean up the kotatsu actually, it's so waaaarrrrmm :( I really should have set it up earlier, but usually I just hide in my bedroom with the heater on instead, this winter.
Anyway, tomorrow afternoon I go meet
bhudson at Narita, and then there should be some adventure, I guess. I need to actually plan this Kyushu trip a little better (for example, Akabane->Yonago in 16 hours doesn't fly for normal human beings). And maybe I'll see what Benoit thinks about keeping the kotatsu out instead of using the cover as a blanket.
