No baseball, no life
Today is Thursday... it's draft day. I wonder if I am as keyed up about this as some of the players going into the draft are!
Let's see, I didn't write much this week. Mostly, every time I try to sit down and write a real entry about anything, I get sidetracked reading stories about obscure historic Japanese baseball players. (This is not a joke. I have learned so much in the last week about random players that I don't think anyone would ever care about, that have never been written about in English.) What can I talk about...
Well, I didn't really DO anything this week. I spent a lot of time in the evenings sleeping, so it's hard to remember what happened what day anymore. The most exciting thing to happen most evenings is based on what I eat for dinner, really. No baseball, no life :(
Monday...
After school I went to karaoke for 1.5 hours because it had been a while (I had a sore throat off and on for a week or two). I made an effort to not do my usual songs and instead just tried lots of random stuff, most of which I sucked at. I'm a little grumpy that I can't find the Swallows fight song on karaoke for whatever reason, that seems like a big oversight, though I have noticed that Crosso, the newest system, has a lot more random obscure stuff that I hadn't been able to find in the past, like more Rumania Montevideo songs.
Afterwards, sushi at Heiroku. It was okay but not great. I am beginning to completely lose my interest in that place being that there are so many better kaitensushi places that I regularly go to (including even the Heiroku in Okachimachi/Ueno, which is fantastic!)
I stopped off at Ito Yokado and then came home with the intention of writing stuff for the draft, but instead ended up playing PP for an hour and then just falling asleep really early.
Tuesday...
I went and paid all of my bills and rent and stuff, since I got paid on Monday. This month also included an installment of resident tax as well as the bi-monthly water/sewage bill, so all in all I think I spent about 2/5 of my paycheck in those 15 minutes. Whee. I still have to pay for my school lunches soon, and renew my train pass, but after that I can spend the next 26-27 days not really worrying about spending, which is a sort of nice feeling. (I can't REALLY just gratuitously spend money or anything, but I mean, I've got some things in mind that I want to hunt down in Book-Offs before I leave Japan, mostly some movies and whatnot, and I had been holding off from doing that last month because of the summer-vacation-small-paycheck squeeze; now it's no problem. Though I suppose I should be saving up for my Kyushu trip over new year's.)
For dinner, I... went to McDonald's and finally spent that "Twin Arches" coupon that I got at the Giants game on Oct 8th, where Hatakeyama and Ramirez both hit home runs, so the coupon was good for a free Big Mac. The problem, though, is that you can't attach a set (or a combo, if you speak American) to it or anything. Usually a medium-size Big Mac combo costs 650 yen here. Well... on their own, a medium soda costs 200 yen and a medium fries costs 250 yen. So effectively, my "free big mac" coupon really became a "200 yen off a big mac combo" coupon.
Came home intending to do laundry and write some draft stuff... but instead, I just fell asleep around 8pm!! Ugh. I woke up at midnight or so and then spent 2 hours or so cropping some photos for what became this draft dphotopost and this draft photopost. I've been down on my photography lately but I'm really proud of how some of those photos came out. I'm totally going to miss this aspect of being here; sitting up front at college ball games, taking photos of players, and getting them signed later, or just giving photos to players.
I slept again from around 3am to 7am. Not sure the split sleep thing works so well for me.
Wednesday...
I went to the Tokyo Dome after work, ostensibly to find out about the NPB-KBO postseason exhibition match. But they close their ticket window at 5pm now! Sheesh. I may have to just go the convenience store route for tickets. (I figure, I want to see either the Dragons or Marines, no matter who wins, so it's fine for me to buy a ticket.)
So instead I ended up just wandering around Tokyo Dome City for an hour or so. Looked through stuff in Yamashita Books but didn't buy anything (I decided a few months ago that I am not buying Pro Yakyu Ai ever again until they stop this ridiculous thing of having 95% of their content be Giants and Lions players. Hey, maybe if Saitoh goes to another team, they'll be forced to cover him next year instead. Or maybe they'll pay more attention to his much cuter former Waseda teammate Kenta Matsushita). I took a few photos in the arcade between Denny's and Yamashita, because Shin told me it's supposed to be closing in a month. Which is hella weird, that arcade has been there for as long as I remember.
I got dinner at Ichiran! Haven't been there in FOREVER. It was good but I'm not as much a fan of tonkotsu ramen as I am of miso ramen, so eh. But it was a good choice for a cold evening. Ichiran is kind of nice for someone like me in that the POINT is to eat by yourself and not see anyone else, but what's retarded is that tons of people come there in groups anyway, so you'll have like, 3 people all sitting at these individual stalls, who have to keep leaning back and forward to chat with each other, so it actually makes it louder. Sheesh.
Block People is still at LaQua Carnival, so I played a game of that. It's silly but I can still beat normal mode as 1 person... it takes 2-3 continues, but. I don't know anywhere else that has it :(
I came home again via Ito Yokado, where I bought some food and a new black marker (I gave my normal one to Ogura on Sunday, and even though I think I'll get it back, I could use a new one anyway). And, I wanted taiyaki... but all they had left at 8:40pm was pumpkin taiyaki. I tried it, but it was pretty disgusting. I like pumpkin pie and such just fine in the US, but it must be something about the Japanese kabocha "pumpkins" that just doesn't work for me in a context like this. (It's supposed to be a pastry filled with something sweet, but their pumpkin filling tastes more like mashed pumpkin, a la mashed potatoes.) I think I'll be sticking to cream taiyaki from now on, thanks.
Came home, worked some more on some draft posts, goofed off on a few puzzles in PP, did laundry, conked out.
I got my Seventh Order of the Jolly Roger in Puzzle Pirates. Holy fucking shit. Has it really been over SEVEN YEARS now? (I actually started playing a few months before Midnight opened, and they count from then, not from your beta test date.) I almost want to just make an LJ icon of the trophy:

I'm also about to hit my 11th page of portraits. I still contend that I have the most clever and most extensive portrait collection in the ocean, but I'm not sure it's possible to find stats on such a thing.
Anyway...
today is the draft OMG OMG OMG OMG only 7 hours left. It's ridiculous how wired I am for this given that I won't even BE here to watch pro ball next year, but I guess it's that I have more of an emotional stake in seeing where my favorite boys end up. nottheGiantsnottheGiantsnottheGiants...
