Adjusting, or something

I have to keep in my mind that this is, technically, a vacation. I guess in my mind, a vacation is when I take a trip somewhere and run around like crazy. Normal people probably take vacations to go somewhere and relax.

But so far, yeah, I've mostly spent time just hanging out, not doing much productive at all, during the days. Mike goes to work at 9:30ish, at which point I just fall back asleep and wake up at 12:30 and still feel a little confused like "won't my alarm go off in two hours?" I should try to get myself waking up at the same time as him so I can get a ride to Microsoft or drive him to Microsoft and then bus into town or somewhere else and do things. Though for now I am okay with just lounging around the house. I have photos to crop and blog entries to write and mail to sort through and plans to make and books to read, there's no shortage of things I could do here, though it'd also be nice to get out and see some people and get lunch and walk around town and whatever.

It's crazy how it's comfortable in the house without any airconditioning or anything, I've forgotten how mild the summers are in Seattle. The windows are open and we're in the middle of a ton of trees, so it's just shady and breezy in here, and the temperature isn't going above the mid 70's anyway. It's naturally cooler in here than the temperature I set my AC to in Tokyo. Kind of nuts, really. My sunburn is peeling.

Yesterday evening Mike and I went to Ballard so I could give Carl a box of yatsuhashi, since they're a fairly timely edible souvenir and only last about a week. The three of us went to the People's Pub for dinner, where I had wienerschnitzel because I was trying to remember how close it is to katsu. The verdict is, not particularly, though it's yummy in a totally different way. I mean, it's also a breaded fried pork cutlet, but very different, different breading, different preparation, different fried texture. Shrug. Then we came back to the Ballard house, and Carl taught us how to play hanafuda. The funny part was that he was using my hanafuda deck that I bought like 10 years ago but just never bothered to learn how to play. I'm not even sure I know anyone in Japan who actually does play.

I took home a pile of mail from the Ballard house, though mostly it is just stuff from places that I have old 401k's with and such. I really need to figure out how to consolidate that all once I move back here.

I did something related to the normal thing a couple weeks back. It was weird. But to make up for it we submitted a paper.

oh I'm so happy that i'll be in Seattle in little over a week. it's actually not as hot here in Fuji this last few days because it's been pouring rain! i'm looking forward to doing nothing in my mom and my sister's houses for awhile!

enjoy your vacation!
Ballard is a really fun place from what I remember. I was living not too far from there for six months, many years ago.

that's funny - my best friend in Sacramento grew up in Sammammish. Though I'm not sure how many years it's been since she was there. that's a pretty area - I drove through there on my way from Chicago to Seattle.
