Best Valentine's Weekend Ever?

Or at least the best one I've had in recent memory, being as I have pretty much been single for every one of them since 2003.

Part 1 - Friday

I should explain first that about two weeks ago I started writing a mini puzzle hunt as a surprise for Mike for Valentine's Day. Since we met at Puzzle Hunt six years ago and became friends through puzzling events originally, and I wanted to give him something really unique but not expensive, I figured this would be good. Besides, uh... I could spin it as playtesting some ideas for Liboncatipu! Yeah! Um. (Don't kill me, Jeff.) Anyway, I'll explain more about it a bit later, but the thing is, I spent Friday afternoon finishing up drawing the final puzzle, and then went to Kinko's to photocopy all of the pieces since I was terrified of losing them. Discovered that you can now do color copies at Kinko's without having to interact with humans. Hooray.

Ended up at Ivar's for lunch, where I had their new "British style fish'n'chips", which were just as tasty as the normal kind, but were kinda drippy and kinda big and I think I'd prefer the usual Ivar's, really.

In the evening, Adam and Rehana gave me a ride out to Microsoft, and we had a Liboncatipu meeting, where Mike and I had people playtest the puzzle we made up Thursday night (verdict: neat idea, possibly too easy), and we playtested another Andy puzzle which was not as much fun as his one from last week, while other people playtested a Jonobie puzzle. Afterwards we had a group of 8 of us go to Red Robin for dinner. It was 4 couples (we really do seem to have become a couples team) of Adam&Rehana, Jeff&Jonobie, me&Mike, and Chris&Jen (plus Katelyn). Good food, good folks, good fun.

I stayed out on the east side afterwards and went home with Mike. Among other things, we played Rock Band for a few hours with him on guitar the whole time and me doing drums for a while and then vocals for a bit after my legs got tired of drums. I still think the interface sucks compared to Drummania, but I'm biased. Mostly, it just bugs me trying to figure out when the hell I'm supposed to hit the bass pedal since I'm used to it being a separate column.

Oh yeah, and he gave me a copy of Microsoft Office as a Valentine's Day present! (Well, not exactly. I haven't had a current version of Office since 2000, when I could still get one cheap from CMU. So I asked him if it'd be a pain in the neck for him to help me get a cheap copy since he works at Microsoft, and he just went ahead and got me one. Now I don't have to be embarrassed that I can't work with recent Word documents!)

Anyway, Saturday's weather sucked. We originally had a plan to go on a long walk around Ballard and the western shoreline, but since it was raining, I ended up surprising him with my puzzle hunt present then. And I'm going to write a separate post about that. To be continued...
