on Amtrak
it's not nearly as comfy as a comparable train in Japan.
notably, the thought of "is it safe to leave my laptop bag here while I wander to the cafe car or bathroom?" kinda makes me sad since I'd never worry about that normally.
it is cheaper than a shinkansen, but the train smells like a toilet (and i'm not near one) and the lack of actual seat reservations is a little annoying. on the other hand power outlets by every seat is kinda nice.
still have a sore throat. bleh.
