Hanging out with old friends, qwirkling and stuff
So, I woke up today with a bit of a sore throat and no particular plan in mind, and the weather was truly crappy, so I decided to just take it easy in the afternoon. I walked to the nearby supermarket and got a big salad and some fruit and some orange juice (AND SOME TASTYKAKES SHHHH DON'T TELL THE HEALTH FOOD POLICE) and came back here and devoured it all. I wouldn't say that salad is like my favorite food or anything, but I am really enjoying being back in a country where I *can* eat these huge salads, or make my own salad at the salad bar, or whatever.
Then I just stayed at home here, relaxing. I worked on resizing some photos from the old-timers game I went to a few weeks back in the hopes of doing a "crazy old uniforms" friday foto, but I'm still going through the set, alas.
In the evening,
donutjay came and picked me up here -- he walked in with his son who is a few months older than my niece, so my niece looked up at him and immediately started babbling and running around like the happy little girl she is. J&J live within walking distance of my brother's place and even sometimes go to the same parks and stuff, so I should maybe try to make them hang out sometime.
We went to Downtown Silver Spring, which is actually a yuppie mall place and not an area of town, and met up with
zaph and his girlfriend, and we all had dinner at Panera. I was unaware of the "choose two" meal thing where you can get soup/salad, or salad/sandwich, etc, and just had a sandwich, but everyone else got two things. Oops.
Around 8, we adjourned back up here to J&J's house (
jd7a had been out at Daisy scouts with
arianakat) and hung out for a bit and then played some board games. I am still terrible at being anything but a gamer gamer rather than a casual party gamer, so we played two games, Qwirkle and Gemlok, and I won both of them. I liked Qwirkle quite a lot, not quite sure I felt the same for Gemlok. Qwirkle was an interesting mix of Set and Scrabble -- so indeed you still have the problem where you can get stuck with a bad set of tiles, but if you can recognize patterns well you can do okay.
L&L gave me a ride back here afterwards (I really do not know the geography of the area at all, which makes it all the more amusing).
So, it was good to see everyone again and hang out!
Now, um, I get to go to sleep and then wake up and see my mom tomorrow. Hooray?
