Sunday goodbyes

So, went to goodbye lunch with Jason L, who was moving to the Bay Area tonight. I saw him a little at Mystery Hunt but it wasn't quite the same. We went to Lunchbox Laboratory, which was a scary burger place fairly close to where I live. The "normal" size is half-pound burgers, and they are GIGANTIC. I had the quarter-pound, and mine was an "Homage to Dick's" which was basically piled with bacon, cheese, sauce, onions, random other crap. It was... I don't even want to think about it. Served with tater tots, too. And Jason and I split a "Boston Creme Donut" milkshake which was fantastic and was served in a beaker. (He had some kinda crazy mushroom thing).

The weird thing is how ridiculously large almost everybody in there was. *I* felt thin, and I'm still kinda overweight even after my time in Japan. Two ladies sat across from us, one from Alberta somewhere and one from Portland who lives here now, and they were both gigantic. It was just... weird. Weird weird.

After that we stopped back here at the house so Jason could get to say goodbye to Zach, and I could almost throw up. No, just kidding, it wasn't bad, but I wanted to be near a bathroom for the half hour after eating...

Then Jason gave me a ride out to the east side so I could hang out with Mike again, and so Jason and I could have the drive time out there to chat about stuff. Hopefully I'll get to see him and Drew and everyone down in SF sometime... but maybe not for another year or so :(

Had a nice evening hanging out with Mike. We tried to do some puzzle stuff, failed to play any games, but did watch a movie (Real Genius), so that was good. And it reminded me of when I was a freshman at CMU and people used to call me Jordan. Wheeee.

Hmm, I wonder if I should actually buy my ticket to Mariners fanfest before going on my trip or not. Maybe not. Argh. Feels like I've got a bunch of stuff to accomplish before flying east Wednesday morning, but maybe I'm just being silly.

I will say this: the first few days I was is the USA, eating everything on my plate was VERY difficult.

Lunchbox Labs is very tasty, but not low fat. The vegetarian patties are a little better for fat content. And yeah, a LL meal is most of a day's food.

I remember, when I moved back from France as a kid, being shocked at how large people in the US were.

ok, went to the internet for some stats. I haven't found Japan yet, but average BMI in the US in 2002 was 28 [1]. European countries ranged from 24.3 to 26.6 [2] in 2006.

Pam and I ate at Lunchbox Laboratory once. We got the smaller burger size, but I still felt kind of queasy for a while due to the amount of grease involved. And there was way too much bacon on the burger, which feels weird to say.

I wouldn't say I'd never go there again, but it isn't high on my list.
