This is an evening

After work today I decided to head up to Saitama Shintoshin to see the movie This Is It, and to get food at Kua'Aina. The movie choice actually mostly just had to do with the timing of what was showing (I kinda really wanted to see Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru just because of the Koide Keisuke factor, but the shows were at 15:30 and 21:00, way too early and late... vaguely vaguely debated seeing the Japanese remake of Sideways but figured that would probably make my head explode). It's Wednesday, so movies are cheaper for Ladies' Day. Sadly, the Kua'Aina burgers are not cheaper, but that's ok.

Anyway, I'm not even sure what to say about the movie. I'm not really a Michael Jackson fan in particular, but he pretty much permeated the culture of my generation, so I'm certainly familiar with all of his music, and I have to admit that the first piece of music I actually ever remember owning WAS infact a Thriller cassette that I got upon entering Disneyworld in the Captain EO/15th Anniversary festival in 1986. It was a very surreal thing to watch, since I remember most of the songs in it from my youth, but seeing him was like I was seeing a movie character, not a real person, which seems like the opposite of their intent. The dancing was really good, and as others have said, the female vocalist and the lead guitarist were also both fantastic musicians.

I mean, I don't regret the time spent watching it, but I actually spent most of the time watching it thinking about various things, like the parting messages people leave, and other existential dilemmas.

Afterwards I went shopping at the mall there and bought a jacket and turtleneck at Uniqlo. Need to buy more, but never feel like spending a lot at any one time. (It's dumb, but I basically kinda need to replace some of last year's $10 shirts with exact copies of the same shirt that aren't all ragged from my Japanese washing machine, essentially.)

COLD. Should set up the kotatsu I suppose. Hmm.
