I hate feeling so tired lately (college ball, etc)
So, Saturday.
Got up around 7am and got to Jingu around 10am for an 11am start. As expected the Waseda side was already retardedly full, at least in the front rows, so I went and got a front-row seat on the Rikkio side. The problem is that this made it essentially impossible for me to get anywhere near my favorite pitcher Ohishi, who pitches for Waseda. I don't like Waseda per se, but I like him. And yesterday was his birthday. Sigh. I did figure out how to sneak past all the Waseda student stuff to get to the bullpen BUT since nobody was out there I figured it would look really weird to have me sitting out there by myself, so I didn't go. ugh.
Waseda won the first game, and Ohishi pitched the last 3 innings. I did yell "tanjoubi omedetou!!!" from the Rikkio side and people were like "...?" (And I know he didn't hear me anyway.) I also yelled ganbatte to all the Rikkio pitchers, of course (I *like* Tohmura and Nihira so...)
What SUCKS, actually, is that if I'd been in the outfield before the game when the Waseda pitchers were warming up out there I could have EASILY yelled out happy birthday to Ohishi. So by being in the infield, I was in the one place I really COULDN'T. Sigh.
Second came was Meiji-Todai. Todai sucks so it was obvious Meiji would win, but actually, the Todai pitcher Maeda held Meiji to only one run over the first 6 innings, which was crazy. But of course then they had to put in their other guys and thus Meiji scored 12 runs over the last 2 innings. It was pretty painful to watch.
I sat with the old folks on the Meiji side again. I'm not sure why I did, but it was interesting enough I suppose. After the game they all went out to say hello to the players -- it's weird because basically you have the college players coming out to their bus, and a few guys in their 20's or so ask for autographs, then you have a bunch of typical 20'sish Japanese barbie doll girls trying to giggle and chat up some of the players (or they might be girlfriends, who knows), and then everyone else standing around has to be at least 50 years old. Well, and there is me, too, and I'm sure nobody knows what to make of me.
I watched the players come out but didn't say anything to any of them (I think there are only maybe 4-5 guys on Meiji's team that I recognize by face with no uniform -- Chida, Shashiki, Ikenaga, Nanba, maybe Okoshi, and Nomura, and Nomura wasn't playing today because he has a cold). But the older people say hello to all the players and players are really polite to them, smiling and thanking them for their support and all. It's kind of crazy -- for some reason I can't imagine the same thing happening in the US, but then again I also don't watch college ball in the US, so who knows.
I went to get dinner after that with three of the older guys and the one older lady at Ohtoya. Then they were all heading to some bar, Abu-san, that's either owned by or run by or somehow associated with Shinji Mizushima, the Dokaben artist. (well, Abu-san is another baseball manga by him that's been running for a bazillion years. The real Softbank Hawks even retired the fictional character Kageura's uniform number #90. No joke.) I dunno, they said that a lot of baseball players go drinking/eating there, but in all honesty, I wasn't really in the mood for it, first since I don't like to drink and second because my brain was already aching from trying to understand Oyaji-speak for a few hours.
So I went home. I walked to Shibuya for good measure, tried to find the South South exit that goes straight onto the Saikyo/ShonanShinjuku platform but couldn't. And I came home, and...
..fell asleep.
I didn't really want to, but I had nothing urgent to do and was waiting for photos to copy onto a flash drive and whatnot and went to lie down, and next thing I knew I was out and it was a few hours later. I ended up all-in-all sleeping for like 12-13 hours total. I dunno, I remember lying there thinking, "I really don't want to move, but I also don't want to just lie here. Ugh." I wonder if really, I actually need to rest more than I do, and that's why recently my body has been making me go sleep a lot more and whatnot.
I slept in this morning too and haven't really done much of anything today yet. I'm going to Jingu for the Dragons-Swallows game tonight, but right now I have a huge headache so have been also kind of just hanging out. Bleh.
