last two days, and I am a dork

Yesterday I awoke to the typhoon, so I spent my morning and afternoon doing laundry and cleaning up my room a bit (it still sucks but is better). I found kittens living on the side of my house again -- I opened the door to go outside to the laundry machine and was really startled by these two fuzzy things looking up at me so I screamed. I haven't seen them since. Given the timing, they are either the same kittens that were born here back in July, or... dear god, maybe they are new kittens. Who knows.

The typhoon cleared up by early afternoon, so I went down to the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame, which is in the Tokyo Dome. I've been there bunches of times, but I wanted to see their current exhibit on college baseball, which is near and dear to my heart. It wasn't anything particularly exciting, just some uniforms from the tournaments, photos of many of the teams, some trophies... but it was still neat to see. What also rocked is that they had their magazines from the last 25 years of Meiji Jingu college ball out in their library, with photos for all the players in the Tohto and Big 6 leagues, so that rocked because I got to see the photos/entries for lots of current players when they were still in college! Some were really crazy, like Tsuboi and Inaba as teenagers, stuff like that.

Afterwards I made the mistake of going book shopping in Jimbocho, where I spent way too much money catching up on baseball magazines. I went to Shosen Bookmart for backissues of stuff. I got the 3 Draft issues of Shukan Baseball for this year, and the backissue of Pro Yakyu Ai that I skipped, and the new issue as well, and then I also got a Fighters 1st Place special issue by Nikkan that I didn't know existed but was kind of neat. Then uh, also picked up the Shube compendium on Koshien since I had been putting off getting a Koshien magazine and they're going to disappear soon.

It's stupid, I was telling myself I can't really buy things until after the 25th when I get my next real paycheck, but in this case, I needed the draft issues earlier because the draft is on the 29th, so I wanted to read up on everything earlier for a change this year.

Then I came home. Even the Mita line was stupid crowded at 6:30pm.

I had ridden my bike to 板橋本町 station, so I decided to ride to Oyama for dinner (the small Oyama, that is, in Tokyo). I went to the 100-yen kaitensushi place for the first time in ages, but it wasn't as good as I remember it, not sure why. Oh well.

I spent the rest of the evening writing up the final Bobby game and stuff.

Today I went back to school, and didn't have THAT much going on, really -- no classes, but I did spend 2 hours helping kids practice for an upcoming speech contest. Grabbed bakery food for dinner because I figured that was an easy way to not spend a lot of money today. (Also school lunch was pretty good today, yakisoba and mini-pizzas and egg-drop soup.)

I'm at home for the evening not really doing anything in particular -- gonna write up my HOF visit I think. And then...

...okay, well, see, upcoming baseball plans for this 3-day weekend:

Saturday: Jingu for college ball
Sunday: Jingu for maybe college ball but definitely Chunichi Dragons vs. Yakult Swallows in the evening
Monday: Jingu for Giants vs. Swallows in the evening

And next weekend... I'm considering heading up to Sendai for the playoffs if the Eagles are hosting it. Assuming certain things work out for me, I think it is more likely I can pull off tickets to the Rakuten games than to the Dragons games, stupid as that sounds. I would certainly RATHER go to the Dragons games, especially if it's Dragons-Yakult, but...

Oh, one thing about tomorrow: it's Tatsuya Ohishi's birthday. He's a 3rd-year pitcher for Waseda University and I've been in love with him for like two years now, but have never said a word to him, or even gotten anywhere near him, of course. So I made an 大石#15 sign and a お誕生日おめでとうございます sign, and since he's their closer, I suppose I would ideally go somewhere near the Waseda bullpen and wait for him to come out, and hold up the signs and maybe say something. Except I don't even know if I *can* sit near the bullpen since that's student territory in theory. I could go sit in the outfield but I'm not sure I'd be able to get his attention from there or not.

I guess there's a few problems complicating the situation, too:

1) I'm not sure whether you're ALLOWED to bring cheer signs like that to college games. I've certainly never SEEN anyone with them, but on the other hand, it might just be that people don't bother making them for college games.
1a) people might think "omg total freak gaijin" if they saw me with such signs.
1b) Ohishi-kun himself might think "omg total freak gaijin" :(

2) I was kind of planning to sit with Ohgura and Yoneyama, the two Meiji fans I re-met at the Swallows game a week and a half ago, who also like the Fighters -- since Yoneyama bought me a ticket to that game, I was going to give him a box of Fighters omiyage cookies (plus the fact is I don't actually have anyone to give them to anyway). Thing is, they'll be on the Meiji side, which is basically the NOT WASEDA side, so even for the first game if they are there, they'd be on the Rikkio side, which would also somewhat complicate getting out to the Waseda bullpen.

(And even if I thought about just holding up the sign in the stands... we'd be on the WRONG SIDE. I think people would find it rather odd for a girl behind the Rikkio dugout to be holding up signs for a Waseda pitcher no matter how you cut it.)

3) thanks to it being a holiday weekend and a Yuki Saitoh start, Jingu is likely to be crowded. FUCK YOU SAITOH FOR YOUR HYPE AND ALL THE BAZILLION PEOPLE WHO ONLY COME TO SEE YOU AND CAN'T NAME ANYONE ELSE ON WASEDA'S TEAM. No, seriously, I would like Saitoh quite a lot if not for the stupidity of the situation. He's a good kid and a good pitcher but for crying out loud, the hype around him just gets annoying at times, especially for those of us who like other players on Waseda's team but have to put up with his fans.

So, hm.
One idea is to ditch sitting with the others and just go super-early and get a seat in the front on the Waseda side. Maybe impossible though.
One idea is to go sit with the others and than tell them flat out, "I wanna go over there and wish Ohishi-kun a happy birthday." and run off.

And another idea is to just ditch the entire thing and feel like a big dork.

Man, it really is dumb how I overthink these things, isn't it?

As I finish this up, Yakult is winning 2-1 in the 7th and Rakuten is winning 4-3 in the 8th. Yikes.

College players are selfless athletes who do not care about personal glory, personal statistics, nor anything else that isn't for the good of the team.

Yeah, right. :roll eyes:

However, I think that is the underlying principle in all amateur sports in Japan and probably why you haven't see any personal signs and other stuff at the 東京六大学 games.

Of course, if you were able to sing 紺碧の空 I'm sure you could get away with a lot. ;)
