都市対抗 and typhoons and stuff

It is raining a lot in Japan. So much so that Oren and Carl are stuck here for two more days. We found this out this morning when Oren called to say their flight was cancelled. Oops.

Well, I fell back asleep and eventually did a lunchtime errands run which Carl tagged along for and which Oren came to Akabane for -- had to pay taxes and my rent, and also get some stuff from Yokado like toilet paper and whatnot. The three of us went to Heiroku Sushi for lunch after I paid my rent at the bank near there... my first time sitting at a table there! Saitoh was behind the counter and was only vaguely annoying. It's good to be able to order with papers instead of yelling everything I want, too.

So, we had taiyaki from Yokado as well, and had to make our way back to the house through the torrential downpour. Yuck. Carl did laundry and Oren and I just chilled out at the house for a bit.

Evening, I ran off to go to the Toshitaiko industrial league baseball tournament game of the evening, Honda (Sayama) vs. NTT Higashinihon. Carl came with me, we sat in the upper deck, first on Honda's side and then switched halfway through to NTT because Honda's marching band got boring. Honda won the game 3-2 but it was really close. My friend Gen also came to the game and kind of sat with us for part of it (I hadn't known beforehand whether he'd actually make it or was going to flake out, so we didn't save a spot for him), and we hung out for a bit talking afterwards.

Baseball Player Moment of the Day:
We're standing there and notice a guy with a big ice thing on his right arm. Gen's like "I wonder who that is?" and I'm like "I think it's got to be one of the Honda pitchers... but which one? I've never seen either of them close up!" So I finally bite the bullet and ask his family in Japanese, "Who's that?" and they say "That's Chikugawa," and I'm like "The second pitcher for Honda today? He was really good!!" and they're like "Thank you so much for watching!" or something. So after some other people asked him for photos and it looked like he was going to run off I just butted in and asked if I could take a photo with him too :)

Rikiya Chikugawa, Honda #16

I told him thanks, and that he pitched really well and good luck in the game tomorrow and all of that stuff.

Here's the funny thing -- not only was he the winning pitcher today, but he's pitched like, half of Honda's innings this tournament. And WEIRDER, he pitched the second half of the Honda vs. ENEOS game I saw last year with that Tazawa kid and all! How bizarre! What a weird coincidence that we randomly saw him there.

Excitement over, I came home, and have been working on uploading my videos of the marching bands to Youtube, and putting some of the photos up, and I may work on actually writing up the game tomorrow, I think... I expect to have some downtime at school.

Speaking of school, it's almost 2am and I have to be up at 6am. I hate this sleep stuff.

It is actually beautiful and sunny in Japan. You just live in the wrong part.
