rookies!

I'm really zonked so I'll make this quick. First, the poll in the last post was because basically the teacher was making kids do an exercise today where they had to make countries bingo and say, over and over, "i have visited Australia" "i have visited Canada" etc etc, and it was making me flinch. When she basically told a student "it's the same meaning as saying 'i have been to Canada'", that's when I was like "okay, WAIT a minute."

problem is, their tests will use "visit" to mean "travel to a place", hence I can't tell them that "um, but we don't TALK like that", because it doesn't matter. They have a specific construction in Japanese where the word they use directly translates to "visit", see. As Carl pointed out, the same kanji but different pronunciation are used to differentiate between "visit a place" and "visit a person". Oi.

I did clarify an hour or two later to the teacher, "We really do have to tell them when there is a difference between spoken and written English... and you're supposed to let me teach spoken English in my classes, right?"

Anyway...

I saw Rookies the movie after work -- went up to Saitama Shintoshin, got dinner at Kua'Aina, and since Wednesdays is Ladies Day, the movie was only 1000 yen.
I won't say it was the best movie ever or anything, but come on, Rookies is basically Gokusen just with baseball instead of yakuza. They dragged on a lot of the baseball scenes unrealistically, BUT it was neat how they actually did film at Jingu, and I even noticed that the regional tournament scenes were filmed at Omiya stadium, now that I have been there!
Don't want to give away much incase anyone actually intends to see it, but, you know, all of the players are already named after Hanshin Tigers players, mostly circa late 1990's (the team lineup is seriously Sekikawa, Imaoka, Hiyama, Shinjo, Okada, Yufune, Wakana, pitcher Aniya and captain Mikoshiba, the manager girl is Yagi, the advisor is Kawato, and his girlfriend is Mayumi) so when they introduced the "two freshmen" who join the team in the movie and their names are Akahoshi and Hamanaka... yeah.
I already thought Koide Keisuke was pretty cute, but he got like ninety times cuter when he got sent into the game as a catcher and put on all the gear. Heh.

Now I really should go watch the rest of the TV show, dammit (I caught some inside jokes in the movie, and I bet there were more that I didn't know were there)

Saw a preview for Gokusen the movie, btw! It looks awesome and like they actually got almost all of Yankumi's former students to come back and at least make cameos, so it should be fun.
