saturday of movies and more baseball
This afternoon I went to Shinjuku and saw the Star Trek movie with
alibash. It was hella good, I almost want to go see it again, partially because I realized afterwards that I must have missed Randy Pausch's cameo in the beginning, and partially just because it was good and I feel like watching it again. I actually started crying a slight bit at the end -- not because I was overwhelmed with what a good tribute it was to the Trek universe and all, but because I was pissed off that my father didn't live long enough to see it. My dad watched Star Trek for years, we watched Next Generation together for the entire 7 years the show was on the air. I could just imagine him calling me on Skype to make jokes about the movie and to say something about "that CMU kid who played Spock, did you know him?" and stuff like that. And I was just really sad. My dad really, really, really would have enjoyed this movie. And he's not here anymore to enjoy it. And that sucks. I want my dad back.
Other than that, since people are so paranoid about spoilers, all I will say is: it had a curious Muppet Movie effect to it. If you've seen the Muppet Movie (the original one) and remember it you'll know what I mean; if not, don't worry about it.
Krispy and I went to get lunch after that and ended up at a place with an all-you-can-eat curry buffet for 1000 yen. WTF, it was a seriously good deal. They had rice and nan and about five kinds of curries and some other stuff like salad and noodles and fries and shumai and whatever. I'm glad I listened to his idea to go there.
After hanging out in Shinjuku I went to the Tokyo Dome. I got there a little after 5. We were still in the 2nd row today but Hiromi and her husband were way up high and I never actually saw them. It was Ojisan, Waka-chan, Naomi from Hokkaido, and me, in our group, though Ojisan knows everyone, so the other people around us were also kind of part of our group. The couple in front of us had this adorable little boy, maybe 4 years old or so, he was so ridiculously cute. When I offered people train cookies he reached into the box to take one too and with some prodding from his mom was like "thank you!"
Darvish was our starter and we should have won and he had exactly one bad inning and gave up 3 runs and that's why we lost and it sucked. Sigh. Inaba hit another homerun, meaning I have seen 7 of his 8 home runs this year. WTF.
I stopped by Yokado on the way home, and I am falling asleep at the keyboard. Going to Jingu tomorrow, but I don't think I'm going to do the doubleheader with the Yokosuka minor-league game... waaaaaaaaayyy too tired.
