Lens caps don't usually have glass in them. Did the outer element also break as well?

I've heard of people sending lenses to Nikon to get estimates for repair and stuff like that. Given the cost of the 18-55 lens, though, I wouldn't be surprised if repairing it is uneconomic. Be warned that Nikon Japan recently released a price sheet with price increases pretty much all across the board.
