rambling

I hate this time of year because baseball is ending and the teams are releasing players and this time, being in Japan long enough, I actually have attachments to these players now. Like I just met Teppei Komai a few weeks ago, one of the Fighters I've been stalking, and I know I said he has no future with the team but they just released him, so that is sad. The Tigers-Fighters traded players are all pretty much being released too -- including (HT) Itsuki Shoda, who is actually one of the guys shown on the first Fighters ad I ever got, since he was Rookie of the Year in 2002. How sad. Kanazawa and Katoh, who were the first two pitchers in the game I saw on the 19th, are released, as is Oyama, the catcher from that day. The Baystars are releasing a whole bunch of guys who make no sense, including Nishizaki, who has raked at ni-gun, and Yusaku Iriki, which makes more sense but...

Oh, and Takuro Ishii. The guy I made my Baystars icon of. My favorite Baystars player. A future Hall of Famer (and current Meikyukai member), with over 2000 hits, one of TWO guys in NPB history to manage more than 150 hits for 9 seasons -- the other being Isao Harimoto, and one of TWO guys in NPB history with 2000 hits AND a win as a pitcher -- the other being Tetsuharu Kawakami. I know there are valid reasons for phasing out a veteran player, but WHY do you phase out a fan favorite and a guy who has pretty much practically been "Mr. Baystars" for the last 15 years? WHY is Saeki playing LF every day when he can't throw or run yet Takuro is sitting on the bench? WHY? I know I'm not the biggest Baystars fan or anything but I really got into the team this year, and I really fell in love with Takuro over the last few years, and now they're cutting him. It makes me extraordinarily sad. And I feel like I can't write this in my other blog because it's too sappy and dumb and people will make fun of me. Maybe I will anyway.

This is why I hate falling in love with players. Because they leave. They retire, they get injured, they get released, whatever. But you also can't just love a team without really liking the individual players. Though, with the Fighters... I still never had that Ogasawara-shaped hole in my heart filled.

Anyway, whatever. This weekend and next weekend could shape up to be AMAZING weekends OR they could just totally suck. I'm not quite sure.

I've heard bits and pieces about the MLB postseason, though here it's mostly All Iwamura All The Time in the news updates. Was wacky to see Evan Longoria mashing, it really wasn't that long ago when he was just a drool puddle in forum threads about the draft. I heard the Phillies had a crazy game culminating in a Shane "V is for" Victorino grand slam after Brett Myers had a big at-bat off CC Sabathia. What planet are we all on now? I saw a clip of Takashi Saitoh on the news here too though and since when is he that cute? (I guess I mostly remember him being all frowny with the Baystars... speaking of other guys who were released by Yokohama and then kicked ass elsewhere. GRR.)

As for other stuff... well... I have some big (kinda bad but kinda good) news that I can make public soon. The week has kind of been a blur as a result.

I hung out with Sam today for the first time in a while, that was good.
Seems like I can move to Akabane on Oct 20! Yay!

Unfortunately, he reminded me about the existence of the McDonald's Tsukimi burger, which I really liked and which I utterly forgot to eat any of again, and it turns out they stopped making them YESTERDAY! Argh.
