Aichi eyes and runny nose
Was nearly late for work due to Koshien again today. It's becoming a running gag.
At least this time I had a good reason -- was watching the Toho (west Aichi, think Dragons territory) team play against Hokkai (south Hokkaido, think Fighters territory). You can see where this would normally be going... except that Yusuke Yamada LITERALLY took the first pitch that any Toho batter saw and launched it into the right-center stands. I nearly blew a gasket. In the japanesebaseball.com chatroom I basically said:
: HOLY FUCKING SHIT FIRST PITCH HOMERUN BY YAMADA OH MY GOD
: OH WAIT YOU ARE ALL 30 SECONDS BEHIND THE NHK FEED AREN'T YOU HOPE I DIDN'T RUIN THE GAME OOPS
Well, that set the tone for the game. Ken called me "the color girl" for adding that I was freaked out they were playing Tyrone Woods's fanfare a bit later, heh. I dropped in a bit later from work and naturally Toho just beat down Hokkai. I think Toho will go pretty far this year because they actually have two decent pitchers. Unlike Saga Kita last year, they're both lefties, but still, I think that'll be good. Urawa Gakuin vs. Yokohama is still going to give me a heart attack tomorrow, assuming I can watch some of it due to the Toin game rainout this afternoon. Hmm.
As for the rest of the day, it was my coworker Jon's last day today. I'm inheriting all of his students! Exciting!
I bought an actual physical copy of the Japan Times for once and photocopied some articles to cover with one of my classes today. That worked out really well. I think we're gonna do it some more, although next time it'll be Daily Yomiuri or some English newspaper that doesn't suck. The upside is that I'll get more in touch with news that isn't baseball. The downside is, the other news is DEPRESSING. Today was all about the anniversary of Hiroshima, naturally. Sigh.
