hanging out with old CMU friends is fun

I forgot to mention, but one of the things I found out yesterday is that if you are only one day late to pay your bills, the convenience store can still do it. I had heard weird things that if you were past deadline you would have trouble, but maybe one day is okay. Dunno.

Today I bought a ticket to Monday's Tigers-Baystars game in Yokohama. I shoulda bought a shinkansen ticket to Sendai for tomorrow but didn't. Hope I can still get there... argh. I also watched the start of Koshien this morning and made it to work at 10:58am for an 11am signin. Everyone thought it was funny though.

During a discussion on catchphrases and slogans where Japanese people like to use English, but sometimes use it stupidly, I was asked "If you took over as marketing director for the Fighters, what would you use as an English catchphrase?" The best thing I could come up with was saying, "I'd make something like 'Attack From The North'."

(Also, for [profile] firearmofmutiny: apparently, the old Seibu slogan "HIT. FOOT. GET." makes PERFECT sense to Japanese people as a team slogan. Like "Well, obviously, you get a HIT... and then you run on your FEET... and then you GET a point... so you WIN... right?")

Kevin ([profile] buoren) and his sister Eileen are visiting Tokyo right now, so after work they met me up in Akabane. We took the train down to Shinjuku, and I took them to Osaka House for okonomiyaki, because Kevin is still in his Kevinegetarian stage, so yakiniku and shabu shabu and such were out, but okonomiyaki was ok because he could get a veggie mix. I thought it'd be a good experience for them to go into a hole-in-the-wall basement place and do group cooking stuff. And I think they even liked the food. Eileen did the whole nine yards and tried putting sauce and mayonnaise and fish flakes and nori on hers, but I'm still a weirdo who only puts sauce.

After that, we went through an arcade and I made them do purikura (print club photographs). I have to admit that I find purikura to be a lot of fun with a group of people.

And then, off to karaoke. I have a member's card for Karaoke-kan now. Whee. No idea what that gets me, really, but anyway, we sang a lot of stuff. Sadly Eileen doesn't really know Japanese music, and I don't really know recent American music, so it was a bit of a mismatch, but we all did some old anime songs together, so I guess that was ok. Kevin did some Dreams Come True with me, and a few other things as well. I still dream of finding someone someday to harmonize with on HY songs, dammit :(

Made Eileen take this photo of me and Kevin in front of the Shinjuku station map. Man, it's weird to realize we've been friends for like TWELVE YEARS.

Anyway, that was fun to see them again.
Tomorrow I'm off to Sendai to see the Fighters! And Kazuhito Tadano! ♥ ♥ The crazy documentary guys want to follow me there. I'm not sure that's a good idea. Sigh.
