And the seasons, they go round and round...
Seattle: I'll discuss it with Eli and we'll probably order tickets tomorrow or sometime soon, assuming USAirways or whatever doesn't screw with the prices. I'm thinking of going either Tuesday or Wednesday of spring break week (April 3rd or so) and coming back that Sunday, so all Seattlites beware.
Afternoon: I did laundry. It wasn't very exciting. Flannel sheets leave an amazing amount of lint on the bed and in the lint filter. I came to campus and played about one hand of bridge before it was time for KGB.
KGB: I arrived to find
jcreed in the seat I usually sit in (for escape route purposes since I always leave early for Kiltie), but he was nice and moved over a seat for me. I spent half of the meeting watching him play Arkenoid on his laptop. I made a report for the Pocky committee and gave away a whole bunch of chocolate pocky, and also some of the Hello Kitty candies and yogurt candies I bought at Supa-Tokyo on Saturday. (Maybe I should have called it "The Gratuitous Japanese Candy Committee report" instead).
mistergone actually did show up to the meeting, which was interesting in its own way (since I don't think I've seen him in person since aphio initiation last semester), and I saw all of the usual suspects (you know who you are,
blk
naufiel
whitemage
sleepsong

The upshot is, this Friday night is Capture the Stuff with Flags! WHEEE! If you're anywhere near CMU, come play. It'll be fun.
Kiltie: I was the only baritone player there for the first ten minutes of rehearsal, which scared the heck out of me. I managed to actually sight-read most of "His Honor", although I still sucked. Ed showed up after a while and sucked slightly less than I did. We read through Chorale and Shaker Dance, and some other stuff, and it was ok.
D&D: Well, we kind of got stuff done. First we got Jade to scout the camp and figure out where Garlan was. The good news: Well, we know where he is. The other good news: the orcs are breaking camp. The bad news: Well.. the orcs are breaking camp, so we had to rescue him soon. Also, they had a buttload of ogres that had joined them, and the nasty blue lizardlike people, and were going to "Phase 2". So, uh, whee. Well, we decided to pretty much storm the camp, because it needed drastic action. We went in and stormed the fort, so we could be joined by those troops, and then went in to storm the camp. They played a pretty good trick on us with these huge illusionary trolls and ogres, and Delsenora wasted a prismatic wall on them. Then we went into the camp, dimension-dooring to the Necromancer's tent, with Negative Energy Protection cast on three party members and Protection from Evil on everyone. We got to the shack - it was barren. So we had to get out of it, which involved killing a bunch of orcs in the doorway (but Grundar took them all out in one round, pretty much). We went around the shack and WHAM! There was the necromancer and a bunch of skeletons and other robed thingies and all.
Well, shit.
So my character strode forward into the middle of the skeletons and cast Castigate, which is this spell I just discovered recently in the cleric handbook. It basically lets you spout the teachings of your god and does damage to creatures who are more than one alignment different from you. w00t! I was like "You evil, evil horrible creatures! Why can't you be good! Good is what everyone should be, and you are not, you evil evil evil things! If you will not forsake your evil ways, you will die die die! Bad evil! Bad! Bad bad bad evil! Evil Evil!" and so on (because Tal said I had to act out what I was saying if I ever cast that spell). So I took out a whole bunch of the cloaked figures (skeletons) in that shot. Heh. Grundar ran up and took a good chunk out of the necromancer, and then one of the hooded creatures turned out to be the big nasty blue lizard fighter guy. Ouch. He did some serious damage to Grundar, but Grundar managed to eventually take out the necromancer. (YAY!) Of course, the necromancer managed to cast a sleet storm, which didn't affect Grundar, but was a major pain for the rest of the party (Carl's character was pretty much fallen down on the ice for the rest of the battle). There was another spellcaster, too - eventually the blue guy and the spellcaster grabbed the necro's body and teleported out. Fortunately, in the meantime, Jade had rescued Garlan. (I forgot to ask whether the domination effect ended when the necromancer died... that is a very good question... because he was VERY VERY dead after I landed a Holy Smite on top of him and the blue fighter guy)
Also, we got pizza from pizza prima, and it was really undercooked and kinda yucky. It's odd because I usually like their pizza a lot.
oh yeah: I just wanted to share some of my favorite quotes, because Jason and I looked them up during KGB --
"Just because some of us can read and write and do a little math, that doesn't mean we deserve to conquer the universe." -- Kurt Vonnegut, _Hocus Pocus_
"Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best he is a tolerable subhuman who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not make messes in the house." -- R. A. Heinlein, _Time Enough for Love_
(wow, two of my other favorite quotes from TEFL are in the same file I had that one in:
"The more you love, the more you *can* love - and the more intensely you love. Nor is there any limit on how many you can love. If a person had time enough, he could love all of the majority who are decent and just."
"If you happen to be one of the fretful minority who can do creative work, never force an idea; you'll abort it if you do. Be patient and you'll give birth to it when the time is ripe. Learn to wait..")
