Good-bye days, いま変わる気がする
There's going to be another season of Gokusen. I don't even really know what to say. It's not like Nakama Yukie really needs this job, is it? I wonder what Johnny's boys will be the Sawada prototype this time around? First it was Arashi, then KAT-TUN, so now we're probably delving into those Hey Say kids or Kanjani 8 or whatever, right? Yikes. (I'm still sort of annoyed at Matsumoto Jun for being so damn good as Sawada in the original Gokusen and so bad in pretty much everything else he ever appeared in.)
Anyway, uh, today was Friday. I had kaiten sushi for lunch, and I went to the post office/bank, where I saw a big advertisement for Ichiro all-star MVP postage stamps. Cool.
I talked to Duane a lot today. See, I wasn't able to say this in a public entry before, but he's quitting GEOS really soon. As in, his last day at Akabane is the 23rd, meaning we'll see him all of like 4 more times. There'll be a sub teacher teaching his class for a week and a half, and then we get his replacement, who is a British guy. Actually, the replacement guy's a computer science guy from Edinburgh, which makes me wonder. Anyway, I'm a little freaked out about this all. Duane will definitely still be in Japan until April, but we probably won't see him much once he quits, so it's a little sad. Plus I'll be the sempai of the native teachers at the school, which means I'll probably have to do a lot of the things I'd currently been foisting off onto Duane (mostly prospective student interviews). But mostly, I am going to miss Duane. Despite that he was really scary to me at first, we've had a lot of interesting talks lately about the whole "wtf are we doing in Japan" thing, and he has a lot of good insights.
My kids' class was pretty bad today, and the boy wasn't even there. Go figure. It started off so well, too, which is probably what bugs me about having it fall apart so far. Oh well, they were all saying today's target language ("Let's make a snowman!" etc), so at least I accomplished something.
Eri's mother's eye operation was successful, but she'll be in the hospital for the forseeable future, so things might be pretty crazy around Akabane-ko for a few weeks. Oh well, we're doing the best we can. Considering it's been 5 months without a manager, we're actually doing pretty well, but it's still pretty crazy.
I forgot to eat all day again. I nearly fainted on the subway ride home (I didn't even get out of work until 11pm, so this is like 11:15pm) and went to the Warabi nishiguchi ekimae 24-hour generic Japanese food place, and got katsudon.
Anyway, as I always have these late-Friday early-Saturday short breaks, I should probably get sleep. Early work day tomorrow and then hopefully I'll catch up with Carl and Oren after work, and then they're going to fly back to America and I won't see them for a while. Bleh.

I really did like the HYD dorama, but I think there's something missing from Matsujun's portrayal of Domyouji because I still, to the bitter end, never understood why the hell Makino would ever fall for him, and I got the impression there was supposed to be SOMETHING there.

I think for me Domyouji was sometimes so vulnerable and that's what Makino liked about him so much; that he *needed* her, and because he needed her, he grew to love her and respect her. I think the fact that she was the only person he could really, really talk to when he was like that, not even the F4, is a huge component of their relationship. Yeah, he was a jerk, but he was a vulnerable jerk.
I'm currently on Densha Otoko, which I'm liking a lot. =) Seriously, one of the major reasons I want to go to Japan is because I like the doramas so much. Well that and anime and the language and the culture itself.
