Twas the Day After Christmas

One of my students today gave me a Christmas present of some skin cleanser foam and two packages of face mask stuff. This would seem like an odd gift normally -- is she saying my skin is bad? And why give what ostensibly looks like Y4000 of cosmetics to your English teacher? It turns out, though, what really happened is that she actually works for the KOSE cosmetic company as a chemist. And so apparently she basically uses her employee discount every year to get Christmas presents for all her female friends. She also gave a gift pack to the other student in her class.

I dunno, now I feel obligated to use the face mask, even though the idea sort of scares me :)

Good news: My back appears to hurt a little less today.
Bad news: The reason why is because my RIGHT FOOT HURTS LIKE FUCKING HELL AND I CAN'T FEEL ANY OTHER PAIN.

I hadn't worn high heels in bloody forever, so I think I was somehow walking funny on my right foot yesterday to overcompensate for back pain, and I woke up this morning feeling like my foot was funny -- every now and then it is normal for me to feel like my foot has tensed up horribly, and it usually goes away after I relax for a few minutes. Only today it didn't go away, but instead it got worse and worse, to the point where I couldn't put much weight on it by the end of the day unless I angled my foot to the side to put the weight there, and so I was limping back to the train and to my bike (though riding my bike was no problem). And no, I wore flats today, with Superfeet in them, so I don't know why it got worse. Sigh.

This afternoon I met up with Sam and bought his old Nikon D200 off of him. I took some shots of Akabane station tonight and all the Christmas lights but I actually don't like them enough to put them online. I need to actually figure out how to really use this camera since it has a bazillion new features that my D50 didn't have. Hellooooo Ken Rockwell.

After that I stopped by the post office to get more money and to cash a check that KDDI had sent me. The funny part is that I thought I'd need my bank book and whatnot to cash the check but it turns out that no, I just needed a hanko. They were REALLY confused when I was giving them my bank book -- and then the guy's all like "Oh! So here is this money, and you want me to put it in your bank account?" and at that moment I realized what the fuck was going on, but it seemed silly at that point to say "No, I'm a moron", so I had him do that. And then like 2 mins later I went to the ATM and took out a whole bunch of money from my account. Oops. If you really wanted to rob me, today was definitely the day, as at one point I think I was walking around with the equivalent of $700 in cash on me. I also went to pay my bills today as well.

I did "Twas the Night Before Christmas" in two of my classes today, using recordings from Libravox and having them fill in the rhyming words as they listened, and then checking for comprehension as they read it aloud. My Headways class actually really loved it and by the end the one student was even acting out the motions of it as we went through the verses. (When we did the line how Santa touched the side of his nose and then up the chimney he rose, this student literally stood up like "Whoooooosh!!") I do think that it's basically only possible to do that poem with a Sprint 8 or higher class, though -- poetry is hard.

Wow, tomorrow's my last day of work before the long New Year's vacation! Exciting. Though busy -- I have a lot of classes and a lot of stuff to get done tomorrow. Yikes.
