Back to school
Went back to work today. It wasn't too bad, I guess. I had to walk to the train station, which took a while, and I just missed a train, which was frustrating, mostly because I just couldn't run down the stairs. I picked up some lunch and extra breads from the bakery with the intention of not leaving the building all day, because my main issue right now is stairs. Walking isn't so bad, I'm a little sore, but stairs hurt a lot, as does standing up/sitting down.
Eri saw my leg and was just like "EW! Are you okay? Really?"
I actually completely forgot to tell my 3pm student that I was hit by a car. It just didn't come up in the conversation, and because the other student didn't show up, we spent the hour just talking about random stuff, with me teaching her some vocabulary about her hobbies. I never stood up once to go to the whiteboard so there weren't any moments of me gimping around, basically.
In the evening, though, it came up a few times. One of my students, who takes Mill B and Sprint 7 on Tuesdays and shows up early to chat, was telling me he had a pretty bad weekend... so when he said "and how was yours?", I was like "Well, I got hit by a truck..." "REALLY?" So I ended up showing him the big bright red bruise which goes up my right leg and he was just like "Oh my god," so... yeah.
Mill B went well, anyway, they're a good gang, and then in the Sprint 7x, the topic was, I kid you not, clarifying information in hospital visits. So there'd be sentences like "Well, I don't think you have any fractures but we'd like to take some X-Rays to be sure of the diagnosis." "You'd like to take some what? For the what?" So the guys kept inserting things in the conversations like "You got hit by a what? A truck?" And it turned out that one of my students actually had gotten measles back in the collegiate outbreak in April... I was all like "oh my god, that's terrible, I'm so sorry," and they were just like "HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT, WEREN'T YOU IN AMERICA??" I told them the truth: I had friends studying at Waseda and Keio at the time.
One of my Sprint 7y students brought me cookies completely randomly (before finding out about my accident). The other one wanted to talk about the Hanshin Tigers. I also saw Eri's student who is in med school and I told him "PLEASE STUDY ENGLISH AND WORK HARD, SO THAT PEOPLE LIKE ME WHO GO TO THE HOSPITAL WILL HAVE SOMEONE WHO CAN TALK TO THEM." I think I scared him, heh.
I went to Kawaguchi after work because I knew I wasn't going to do much once I got up to Warabi. I played a game of PNM at the arcade, but it actually hurt my arms, sadly -- something I wasn't anticipating, and I wonder what the deal is. Had maguro katsu curry at CoCo, which was... good... but in reality, maguro katsu is sort of a waste of tuna IMO.
The weather's really pretty great right now, aside from it raining. It's Seattle rain, though, really.
