Gymming it
I went to the gym last night to lift weights and tonight to play volleyball. Ran into Maggie there last night, but she wasn't at volleyball today. Which is just as well. We had around 18 people there at our maximum. I was serving like shit until I heard Elise and Ellen calling my serves short BEFORE I served them, which pissed me off, so I was serving harder and harder as it went on. I dunno. It's cool having Chris and George around. Everyone at volleyball seems to adore them, which is good.
Didn't really accomplish much else besides maybe watching doramas in the last two days. Well, I did work on more of my Japan baseball pictures. Yeehaw.
Kirakira Kenshui, which is a comedy based on a real medical intern's blog, is a total win for this season. Haikei Chichiue-sama, which is a family-traditional-restaurant dorama, is not. Which is odd because based on the casts you'd think the opposite, like, "Ninomiya's worked with Clint Eastwood now, why on earth would he be in a dorama if it sucks?" compared with "Manami Konishi's first starring role? Eiji Wentz as the love interest? What?" (And yet, I giggle every time they call him Tapioca instead of Tachioka.) I dunno, HC's supposed to be a comedy and the only funny part is the interaction between Nino and Yu Yokoyama, and even that's not really out there. And subtitles didn't make it any better. I'm almost inclined to not even bother watching any of Kareinaru Ichizoku to evaluate it, even though I know it's getting the highest ratings of any of these because of Takuya Kimura's crazed fans. I'm probably giving up on the new Yukie-Nakama-marries-into-a-snobby-family dorama just because I think it's going to be too painful. It'll go in the queue of "watch this when I'm bored".
Still need to get around to watching/reviewing the first two episodes of Tokyo Tower 2007 and "Konshu Tsuma ga Uwaki Shimasu?!"... I've been catching up on other stuff is the problem. I'm almost through all of Akihabara@DEEP, which is pretty weird, and there's finally sort of a plot as of episode 8... out of 11.
I'd feel like a big dork for all of this, but the cool thing is that I seriously can sense the improvement in my Japanese comprehension as I go through things. It's sort of like how I got extremely good at reading name kanji from baseball box scores. If the end is right, it justifies the beans.
Also, I am going to go to Mariners Fan Fest on Saturday morning, it seems, assuming I wake up. Must go check out this new-and-improved Felix Hernandez and all.
